Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II is continuously improving services at all airports managed by the company, including Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang (North Sumatra).
AP II manages Kualanamu Airport through its subsidiary, namely PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi since July 2022. Shareholders in PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi are AP II and the GMR Airport Consortium.
SOE Minister Erick Thohir said a number of SOEs engaged in the transportation, port and airport sectors needed to improve services and also strengthen the ecosystem in reducing high logistics costs.
The Minister of BUMN gave an example of Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra transforming by cooperating with a strategic partner, GMR Airports. This collaboration encourages the quality of management of Kualanamu Airport to be more professional.
"Not only that, Kualanamu Airport is also an international hub and a tourism and cargo hub. This will improve our supply chain for the better," said Erick.
Meanwhile, Kualanamu Airport is currently undergoing a transformation to improve operational and service standards.
AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the strategic partnership at Kualanamu Airport encourages optimization of resources in supporting flight operations.
"AP II and strategic partners collaborate well, and have a positive impact on Kualanamu Airport operations. The data shows improvement, for example currently the level of flight timeliness (on time performance/OTP) at Kualanamu Airport can reach around 75% from previously around 69%.
"Aside from that, Kualanamu Airport's production tools, namely flight time slots for domestic and international routes, have also cumulatively increased from previously 294 time slots per day to now 314 time slots per day. This is thanks to good collaboration to optimize airport operations," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
This operational optimization has had an impact on the success of Kualanamu Airport in capturing the opportunities that exist during the recovery period of the aviation sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The growing demand in 2022 can be well accommodated by Kualanamu Airport and airlines and other stakeholders. Throughout 2022, the number of passenger movements at Kualanamu Airport reached 5.85 million passengers, an increase of around 88% compared to 2021 of 3.10 million passengers," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
Muhammad Awaluddin said the increase in the number of passengers at Kualanamu Airport in 2022 was driven by the activation of domestic and international routes. Specifically for international routes, currently Kualanamu Airport serves flights to and from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, Bangkok and Medina.
Kualanamu Airport is preparing to open domestic routes and direct flight routes to and from South Asia.
Service facilities
Kualanamu Airport also provides various facilities for airplane passengers, where the latest is a special area and lane for Umrah pilgrims.
Muhammad Awaluddin said Kualanamu Airport has now become an international hub for Umrah flights.
"Umrah pilgrims from other cities in Sumatra who use Lion Air concentrate their departures at Kualanamu Airport to go to the Holy Land, so Umrah flights increase and AP II prepares a special service to provide services for umrah pilgrims."
"Special services for Umrah pilgrims at Kualanamu Airport, starting from a special waiting area, special check-in counters, to special inspection lines. We hope that this service can make Umrah pilgrims comfortable in carrying out their pilgrimage starting from the departure airport," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
Apart from Umrah pilgrims, Kualanamu Airport also provides VVIP facilities for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). The VVIP facility for PMI is a form of collaboration between the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) with AP II and other stakeholders at Kualanamu Airport.
The VVIP facility provided for PMI is the VVIP Lounge which provides various needs, as well as the VVIP line for processing immigration.
Since July 2022, Kualanamu Airport has also been running a quick win program to beautify its passenger terminals, including through deep cleaning initiatives (Terminal Deep Clean and Diamond Polish), then beautification initiatives (Airport Beautification Initiatives) and improving service infrastructure (Airport Repair Refurbishment). from upgrading toilets, children's play areas, parking locations to carpets in the terminal.
