BMKG informs to be alert for potential extreme weather during the Nataru period (21 December 2022 - 1 January 2023)
Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II as the manager of 20 airports is taking anticipatory steps in being aware of the potential for extreme weather during the Christmas and New Year transportation period, so that operations and services to airplane passengers are maintained.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has informed them to be alert for the potential for extreme weather during the Nataru period (21 December 2022 - 1 January 2023).
"BMKG monitors developments in weather conditions in all regions of Indonesia, which is based on the latest weather analysis data that in the next week period there is significant potential for atmospheric dynamics which can have an impact on increasing rainfall in a number of Indonesian regions, especially during the Christmas and New Year (NATARU) 2022/2022 period. 2023," explained BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati in a statement on December 20, 2022.
AP II Director of Operation Muhamad Wasid said that all AP II airports ensure the readiness of infrastructure and facilities to anticipate extreme weather.
"On the air side, AP II airport ensures that the runway is always in the best condition to serve flight operations. Runway surfaces such as shoulders and runway strips, as well as drainage systems are continuously maintained and monitored. Measurement of runway friction (runway friction test) continues. Other infrastructure on the air side such as taxiways and aprons are also ensured to always be optimal. If necessary, inspections of airside infrastructure will also be carried out outside the existing schedule," explained Muhamad Wasid
In addition, continued Muhamad Wasid, AP II airport also continues to check and ensure the readiness of flight operational support facilities on the air side such as the Ground Instrument Approach Facility and Ground Support Equipment.

AP II VP of Corporate Communications Cin Asmoro said that anticipatory steps were also carried out to be aware of the potential for extreme weather so that services to passengers would not be disrupted.
"The drainage system for the entire airport area, both the air side and the land side, continues to be monitored so that it works optimally to avoid standing water so as to support operations and services to airplane passengers at the airport. Drainage channels must be clean from silt and grass or bush sediments, and make sure the drainage pump is always in good condition," explained Cin Asmoro.
Electrical facilities on the air side, land side and terminal building are also ensured to be ready to support flight operations and services.
Cin Asmoro added, "Close coordination with stakeholders is also carried out in anticipation of extreme weather. Alertness continues to be increased for all AP II personnel."
AP II also has Emergency Response Plan (ERP) procedures to deal with emergency situations, and is ready to activate the Safety Issue Team and Safety Action Group with stakeholders.
AP II airports managed by AP II are Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Banten), Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta), Kualanamu (Medan), Supadio (Pontianak), Minangkabau (Padang), Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang), Sultan Syarif Kasim II ( Pekanbaru), Husein Sastranegara (Bandung), Sultan Iskandar Muda (Banda Aceh), Raja Haji Fisabilillah (Tanjungpinang).
