Jakarta - Banyuwangi Airport in East Java received The Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2022, eliminating 463 nominations for the building with the best architecture in the world.
The Aga Khan Award for Infrastructure certificate from Putri Zahra Aga Khan acting on behalf of HH Aga Khan was handed over to PT Angkasa Pura II as the manager of Banyuwangi Airport, in Muscat, Oman, on October 31, 2022.
AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the Aga Khan award made Banyuwangi Airport, which is a landmark in East Java, global and known to the global community.
"Banyuwangi Airport has been managed by AP II since 2017, and after 5 years or in 2022, Banyuwangi Airport is now worldwide as a building with the best architecture in the world. In the future, this title must be consistently maintained by AP II as the airport manager and all stakeholders."
"The best architecture in the world owned by Banyuwangi Airport will be equipped with various developments and innovations, including technology-based, to improve services and operations, including ensuring the application of new and renewable energy to achieve the global target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050," said Muhammad Awaluddin. .
In his statement, the Aga Khan Development Network stated that Banyuwangi Airport is very modern and efficient in all aspects.

Banyuwangi Airport itself has an unusual open design like other airports, where this design prioritizes the best air circulation for traveler comfort.
"Unlike airports in general that rely on air conditioning, Banyuwangi Airport has very good natural air circulation so that travelers feel calm and comfortable when they are in the terminal. In fact, the roof of the passenger terminal is entirely planted with green grass which is routinely maintained," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said the design owned by Banyuwangi Airport strongly supports the application of technology to create the best travel experience (seamless journey experience).
"Travelers especially those who come from the millennial generation like the practicality of traveling, and in the future Banyuwangi Airport will offer this flexibility through more technology-based services that are integrated with AP II's travelin application," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
Regarding the application of new and renewable energy (EBT), Banyuwangi Airport has completed 100% of the construction of PLTS for the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting building (a roof covering an area of 600 square meters with a capacity of 35.1 kilo watts peak).
The award for Banyuwangi Airport complements the achievement of Soekarno-Hatta Airport which also won the Aga Khan Award in 1995.
Support G20 Summit
Banyuwangi Airport is also currently preparing to support the holding of the G20 Summit in Bali which will take place on November 15-16, 2022.
If needed, Banyuwangi Airport will become a transit airport or aircraft parking location for the delegations of the G20 Summit. In total, 5 parking stands have been prepared specifically for delegation planes.
The airside of Banyuwangi Airport has dimensions of 2,450 x 45 meters which can serve flights of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 class aircraft.
