AP II Airport Joins Global Community, Pursuing Target of Net Zero Carbon Emissions in Aviation Industry by 2050

The construction of solar panels for PLTS at Banyuwangi and Kualanamu Airports is 100% complete, PLTS construction at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is added

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II, operator of 20 airports in Indonesia, is fully committed to supporting the reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation industry.

This is in line with the global Net Zero Carbon Emissions program in 2050 which was initiated by Airport Council International (ACI) and received support at the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which took place on 27 September - 4 October 2022 in Montreal, Canada.

In an effort to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation industry, AP II has begun to use renewable energy (EBT) to support airport operations.

“As ACI stated, air transportation must reduce carbon so that it can continue to connect people, economies, diverse ideas, cultures and businesses for future generations. AP II fully supports Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050 in the aviation industry by utilizing NRE at the airports we manage," said President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added, "Operational and service aspects at AP II airports are now also focused and paying attention to the environment. AP II joins the global community in achieving its target of net zero carbon emissions in the aviation industry by 2050.”

Muhammad Awaluddin said in the first stage, the use of EBT was implemented at three airports, namely Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Banten), Kualanamu Airport (North Sumatra) and Banyuwangi Airport (East Java).

"In the early stages, the use of PLTS is in the three airports before reaching 20 airports. PLTS construction is carried out in stages until later in 2025 at 20 airports, PLTS will be installed with a total capacity of 26.34 MWp (Mega Watt Peak)," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The construction of solar panels for PLTS at Kualanamu Airport is currently 100% complete for use in the Cargo Terminal and administration building (roof area of ​​5,100 square meters with a capacity of 761 kilo watt peak).

Banyuwangi Airport has also completed 100% of the PLTS construction for the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting building (a roof covering an area of ​​600 square meters with a capacity of 35.1 kilo watt peak).

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the construction of PLTS has reached 90% for the Terminal 2 area, namely the linking line of Terminal 2 (roof area of ​​1,400 square meters with a capacity of 309 kilo watts peak) and the commercial area of ​​Terminal 2 (roof area of ​​4,320 square meters with a capacity of 1,197 kilo watts). peaks).

"The construction of the PLTS in Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport complements the PLTS with a capacity of 241 kilo watts peak which has been operated at the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) building of Soekarno-Hatta Airport," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

AP II continuously prepares 3 important aspects in efforts to save energy and achieve global net carbon emissions targets, namely HR related to EBT-based electrical engineering competencies, Processes related to standard procedures in NRE operation and Technology related to the use of appropriate platforms in NRE operations.

In addition to building PLTS at airports, AP II also relies on technology to save electrical energy to support the application of the green airport concept.

AP II has built a system called MANTRI (Monitoring System of Airport and Non-Airport Threshold Electrical Infrastructure) to control and monitor in real time energy use in AP II.
