Flight recovery at AP II Airport is getting more and more stretched, this year's passengers are projected to reach 60 million passengers or higher than the initial estimate

For the period January - September 2022, passenger movements at 20 AP II airports were cumulatively recorded at 44.03 million passengers

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II as the operator of 20 airports in Indonesia together with stakeholders strives to always maintain flight connectivity in the country, including in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the midst of the severe challenges of COVID-19, AP II and stakeholders strengthen synergies to ensure the national aviation sector continues to contribute optimally in handling the pandemic and recovering the national economy.

"Through close synergy, AP II and stakeholders make adjustments to services and operations so that AP II airports can operate properly in the midst of a pandemic to maintain public trust in air transportation modes. In fact, AP II airports have managed to get recognition from various global institutions for the procedures implemented in anticipating COVID-19," said AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added, "The public's trust is maintained, as well as the good handling of the pandemic in Indonesia, has made flight traffic at AP II airport recover in a sustainable manner. The revival of flights at AP II airport this year is quite significant."

In January - September 2022, the number of passenger movements at 20 AP II airports cumulatively reached around 44.03 million passengers or a significant increase of 115.30% compared to January - September 2021 of 20.45 million passengers.

Throughout 2022, an increase in the number of passengers occurs every quarter. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of passengers was 11.85 million passengers, then the second quarter of 2022 increased by 16.01 million passengers, and the third quarter of 2022 recorded 16.16 million passengers.

“The trend of increasing passenger numbers occurs every quarter in 2022, and this is an indication that the recovery continues to strengthen. We project that the number of passengers in Quarter IV/2022 will also continue to strengthen in line with the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023 holiday periods," Muhammad Awaluddin explained.

60 Million Passengers
Seeing the upward trend, in the fourth quarter of 2022, it is targeted that the number of passengers can reach at least 16 million passengers, in line with the momentum of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"In January - September 2022 the realization of the number of passenger movements reached around 44.03 million passengers and we estimate that in October - December 2022 it can reach at least 16 million passengers, so we are targeting that throughout 2022 the number of passengers at 20 AP II airports will cumulatively reach 60 million. passengers," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The target of 60 million passengers is more than the target previously set in early 2022, namely 41.06 million passengers, and the revised target of 57.89 million passengers.

“The situation in the midst of a pandemic is very dynamic. At the beginning of the year we projected the number of passengers to be 41.06 million passengers, then in the middle of the year considering the existing conditions we revised the projection to 57.89 million passengers. Then, with the upward trend that exists until the third quarter of 2022, we believe the number of passengers by the end of 2022 can reach 60 million passengers, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin said AP II and stakeholders coordinated and synergized closely to ensure that the increase in flight demand by the end of this year could be accommodated properly.

"Airport and flight operations by the end of this year are sure to run well to meet existing demand, to fulfill operations that have been running smoothly throughout the year," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

One of the focuses is Soekarno-Hatta Airport as the busiest airport in Indonesia, even ASEAN. Meanwhile, during January-September 2022, the number of passenger movements at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was recorded at 29.02 million passengers, an increase of around 114% compared to the same period the previous year.
