AP II and LAWA Hold a Meeting to Discuss Cooperation between Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Los Angeles International Airport

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II and Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) are exploring cooperation to make Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as sister airports.

Today, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at AP II Headquarters, a meeting was held between AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin and his staff, LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said airport development must be carried out thoroughly, including paying attention to the network owned by the airport, both domestic and global networks.

"AP II is trying to develop the airport as a whole. In addition to carrying out physical development such as developing passenger terminals and increasing runway capacity, we also want the airport to have an extensive network both domestically and globally.”

"AP II already has a comprehensive Soekarno-Hatta Airport development plan. After Terminal 3 was opened, the revitalization of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 was carried out, then in the future the construction of Terminal 4, the construction of a cargo village, the construction of an integrated building and so on. This physical development needs to be followed by an expansion of the global network to further strengthen the position of Soekarno-Hatta Airport in the world, including today we discussed cooperation with Los Angeles World Airport as the manager of LAX, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Los Angeles International Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. In 2021 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles International Airport announced it was ranked 5th in the list of the world's busiest airports released by Airport Council International, with a total of 48 million passengers. The current operations of Los Angeles International Airport are supported by 4 runways and 9 aircraft passenger terminals.

Muhammad Awaluddin said Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport could later cooperate in the form of sister airports to share knowledge and knowledge.

In a meeting with AP II, LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci explained that currently Los Angeles International Airport is one of the main gateways to North America.

Justin Erbacci said that currently various developments were being carried out at the airport, including the construction of the Automated People Mover. Soekarno-Hatta Airport itself has operated Automated People Mover or also known as Skytrain/Kalayang as a mode of transportation to support the mobility of airplane passengers and airport visitors from and to Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Airport Train Station.

"Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are also undergoing modernization which will soon be opened, as well as modernization in Terminal 4 and Terminal 5," said Justin Erbacci.

Furthermore, Justin Erbacci said that LAWA was looking forward to working with AP II.

“We can work together in various fields, technology, innovation, and share best practices. We really welcome the arrival of [AP II] to see what we have done [at Los Angeles International Airport],” said Justin Erbacci.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in this meeting said that the cooperation is expected to be able to carry more passengers.

"It can bring more passengers to you, and of course more to us," said Eric Garcetti.

This exploration of cooperation with LAWA is part of AP II's efforts to expand its global network in order to improve the management standards of airports in Indonesia.

Previously, Changi Airport Group as the manager of Changi Airport in Singapore has also held discussions with AP II. The meeting of the board of directors of AP II and the board of directors of Changi Airport Group was held earlier this month at AP II's head office, Soekarno-Hatta Airport area.
