Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II has successfully supported the implementation of the Umrah pilgrimage which has been reopened since early 2022 in line with the gradual improvement in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Umrah service will be reopened starting January 8, 2022, where on that date 419 Umrah pilgrims departed from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to the Holy Land.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the number of Umrah flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport then continued to increase.

"Thanks to good collaboration from all stakeholders so that the departure and arrival of Umrah pilgrims can go well."

"From January 8, 2022 to May 24, 2022, the total number of Umrah pilgrims at Soekarno-Hatta Airport departing and arriving was recorded at around 340,000 people with 989 flights. The airlines serving this Umrah flight are Lion Air, Saudi and Garuda Indonesia," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin said Soekarno-Hatta Airport made a number of operational adjustments to support the smooth running of Umrah flights.

"Airline traffic has started to increase this year and in line with that Soekarno-Hatta Airport made a number of adjustments, namely by activating Terminal 1 starting April 1, 2022 to support Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 so that Umrah flights and Eid transportation can run well," he said. Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said that the stretch of Umrah flights also occurred at other AP II airports.

Along with the better handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, AP II airports together with airlines and other stakeholders have also opened direct flights to Saudi Arabia to deliver Umrah pilgrims.

On May 24, 2022, Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang (North Sumatra) opened direct flights to Saudi Arabia served by Lion Air with Airbus A333 aircraft and carried 424 passengers who were Umrah pilgrims.

This direct flight received appreciation from the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra Musa Rajekshah who was present directly on Lion Air's inaugural flight to Medina, Saudi Arabia.

"I am grateful because for a long time our Hajj and Umrah pilgrims have not been able to leave, finally we can leave again. Because if we were able to depart from Kualanamu, it means that the Umrah pilgrimage trip is much faster than before through Jakarta," said the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra when attended Lion Air's inaugural flight to Medina.

Then, on May 26, 2022, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang also serves direct Palembang - Medina flights carrying 435 Umrah pilgrims. This flight is carried out on a charter basis by Lion Air. The ceremonial release of the Umrah pilgrims was attended by the Governor of South Sumatra H. Herman Deru.

At the end of August 2022, it is planned that Lion Air will reopen Palembang - Medina Umrah flights twice a week.

Meanwhile, on June 4, 2022, the Hajj pilgrimage will begin at AP II airports.

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Hajj flights are planned to be operated through Terminal 2F and Terminal 3.
