PT Angkasa Pura II congratulated the Minister of Transportation for conferring this Honorary Doctorate title.
"AP II congratulates the Minister of Transportation for his Honorary Doctorate degree from UGM. The contribution of the Minister of Transportation to the national transportation sector has been felt since he worked at AP II, making various significant changes that all of us are currently benefiting from," said Muhammad Awaluddin, President Director of AP II.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi served as President Director of AP II from January 15, 2015 until he was appointed Minister of Transportation on July 27, 2016.
During this period, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi brought significant changes to the national airport sector.
"One of the big achievements that has brought airport management in Indonesia to be more professional is the opening of Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. While still serving as President Director of AP II in 2015, the Minister of Transportation was very focused on continuing the construction of Terminal 3 and fulfilling various requirements. When he became the Minister of Transportation, he was present to directly monitor Terminal 3 since the first day of operation on August 9, 2016," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
After successfully opening, development continues to be carried out at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
On September 17, 2017, President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin officially opened Skytrain operations at Terminal 3, which is an electricity-based train as a mode of transportation for passenger movement from and to Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Airport Train Station.
The development of Soekarno-Hatta Airport then also includes access to transportation, where on December 26, 2017 the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train officially operates with routes to and from Jakarta.
Currently, Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is supported by Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, has succeeded in maintaining connectivity both domestically and internationally. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Soekarno-Hatta Airport continues to operate 24 hours a day to serve various flights.
Flight connectivity
In addition to the construction of infrastructure, transportation facilities and infrastructure at airports managed by AP II, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi while serving as President Director of AP II in 2015 - 2016 also supported the expansion of flight connectivity.
One of the connectivity options opened is direct flights from Jakarta - Silangit, North Tapanuli, starting March 23, 2016 to support Lake Toba tourism.
Until now, Soekarno-Hatta Airport and other AP II airports together with airlines have continuously opened new routes domestically and added flight frequencies on existing routes.
The Minister of Transportation, who used to be the President Director of AP II, also made major changes by eliminating ticket sales at AP II airports starting March 1, 2015, in line with regulations issued by the Ministry of Transportation.
After the sale of airline tickets has been eliminated at the airport, now AP II together with the airline are also developing and providing self check-in machines at the airport, in addition to providing a travelin mobile application that can be used to check-in and purchase airline tickets.
Another example of modernizing the system that the Minister of Transportation used while working at AP II was the introduction of four-wheeled motorized vehicles as special rental transportation (AKS).
Currently, ASK is managed professionally and some are also a fleet of online taxis at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to meet the demands of airplane passengers.
Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin revealed the idea of managing porter services more professionally at Soekarno-Hatta Airport also came from the Minister of Transportation. The idea was then developed by introducing the Airport Helper service in 2016, then further developed by providing Concierge Express services to provide check-in assistance and premium helpers.
Since working at AP II, Budi Karya Sumadi's contribution has been very significant in bringing about changes in airport management for the better and has a positive impact to date, where these changes are then developed again so that AP II airports have increasing competitiveness.
