Research, innovation and capacity building of human resources are important factors
Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic (PPI) Curug collaborate in the fields of research, innovation and human resource capacity development in the national aviation sector.
On Friday 20 May 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AP II and the Research Organization for Governance, Economics, and Community Welfare of BRIN, and between AP II and PPI Curug.
AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said this MoU was a form of AP II's readiness to always improve competitiveness as a world-class airport operator that manages the best airports in the world.
"Collaboration with BRIN and PPI Curug accommodates three big things that are key for a company including AP II to always improve competitiveness, namely: Learning (Learning), Research (Research and Development), and Innovation (Development of Innovation)," said Muhammad Awaluddin at the MoU signing ceremony.
Muhammad Awaluddin said that the collaboration between AP II and BRIN in the field of research and innovation aims to produce a new process or technology for airport operations and services.
"AP II and BRIN see the importance of research and innovation to encourage airport development in Indonesia to promote technological progress. Technology brings change for the better, as well as AP II will take advantage of new technologies created in the country to increase the competitiveness of the national airport sector, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
The collaboration between AP II and BRIN and PPI Curug is part of the development of a pentahelix-based airport that involves multi-stakeholders including the government, academia, business actors, the public and the media.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Research Organization for Governance, Economics, and Community Welfare at the National Research and Innovation Agency, Agus Eko Nugroho, said that human resource learning, research and innovation are three factors that must be developed to meet the future.
"The collaboration between AP II and BRIN in the aviation industry is expected to become a center of excellence, to become a national flagship in learning, research and innovation," said Agus Eko Nugroho.
Meanwhile, the Head of Academic Administration and Youth Affairs of PPI Sukarwoto said collaboration between the world of education and industry is very much needed for the development of human resources.
“The role of industry is very important to support the development of the world of education. We really welcome the collaboration with AP II," explained Sukarwoto.
Collaboration
Meanwhile, at the signing of this MoU, a webinar entitled Collaborative Research & Innovation was also held.
Head of the Research Center for Cooperatives, Corporations, and People's Economy BRIN Irwanda Wisnu Wardhana in the webinar said that the progress of the country also depends on technological progress.
Technological progress itself can be driven by collaboration among stakeholders to get better results.
"AP II and BRIN will build research collaborations, build the Indonesian economy to recover from the current conditions [due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic]," said Irwanda Wisnu Wardhana in the webinar.
Through this research collaboration, AP II and BRIN will produce various discoveries that can accelerate airport operations and services.
“These inventions need to be patented, and can be commercialized to become a new source of income for AP II. On a macro level, Indonesia will have more patents," explained Irwan Wisnu Wardhana.
Furthermore, he revealed that the development of research and innovation can also increase the capacity of the technology already owned by AP II to be used in various fields,
"We can scale up technology in AP II, upgrade to class, to use it in various places. Examples of research and innovation development include electric cars at airports, new and renewable energy, and so on. Communication will be carried out closely between AP II and BRIN to determine research needs," said Irwanda Wisnu Wardhana.
