Through strict procedures and close coordination with stakeholders, the number of airplane passengers at AP II Airport in the first quarter of 2022 has increased significantly by 65% ​​to 11.71 million people

The positive trend in the first three months of 2022 is expected to continue until the end of the year

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II and stakeholders in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic always try to ensure smooth flight operations and the implementation of health protocols at airports.

This continuous effort has played a role in realizing the positive trend of air traffic at 20 AP II airports, as seen in Quarter I/2022.

During January - March 2022, the number of aircraft passenger movements at 20 AP II airports cumulatively recorded 11.71 million passengers, a significant increase of around 65% compared to January - March 2021 of 7.07 million passengers.

In line with the increase in aircraft passengers, aircraft movements also increased by 11% to 106,860 flights.

"The increase in flight traffic is in line with the maintained confidence of airplane passengers to use air transportation, one of which is due to efforts to implement health protocols at airports and operational adjustments to ensure smooth flights at the airport," said AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added, "In March 2022, the handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia, which is also supported by the booster vaccination program, went very well so that currently the pandemic can be well controlled. This means that the tourism sector has started to open up, and the airplane passengers have responded well.”

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest airport in Indonesia, the increase in passenger movement reached 88% or from 4 million passengers in the first quarter of 2021 to 7.53 million passengers in the first quarter of 2022.

This positive trend in flight traffic has prompted AP II to reactivate Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport starting April 1, 2022, to support Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.

As of today, April 12, 2022, Terminal 1 serves domestic route passengers for Airfast, Super Air Jet, Sriwijaya Air, NAM Air and AirAsia Indonesia flights.

"Soekarno-Hatta Airport continues to operate 24 hours a day to serve various flights. AP II and all stakeholders ensure that Soekarno-Hatta Airport can contribute significantly in handling the pandemic and recovering the national economy," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said the positive trend in the first three months of this year indicated that the national aviation sector was starting to gradually recover.

"We see that the national aviation sector will recover faster than the global one, because Indonesia's domestic market is very large. Plus, currently international flights have also been opened to support domestic tourism. We hope that the pandemic situation remains under control so that the positive trend can continue.”

Health protocol
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, all AP II airports operate by implementing regulations issued by related Ministries/Institutions such as the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Law and Human Rights and so on.

"Regulations are very dynamic in the midst of a pandemic, and AP II together with all stakeholders always coordinate closely to make various adjustments in implementing these regulations," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

AP II airports also always focus on implementing health protocols according to existing regulations, and are supported by the implementation of Biosafety and Biosecurity Management.

The implementation of strict health protocols has allowed AP II airports to win various global awards, of which the latest Hygiene Measures by Region (Asia-Pacific) award from Airport Council International (ACI) was given to 6 airports, namely Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang), Sultan Thaha (Jambi), Supadio (Pontianak), Sultan Syarif Kasim II (Pekanbaru), Depati Amir (Pangkalpinang) and Kualanamu (Deli Serdang).
