ACI Names 6 AP II Airports to be the Most Hygienic in Asia Pacific, Has Innovations Against COVID-19

Only 10 airports have won the Best Hygienes Measures by Region (Asia-Pacific) 2021 award, of which 6 airports are in Indonesia and managed by AP II.

Jakarta - International Airport Council (ACI) today, March 10, 2022, announced the names of the most hygienic airports in the world that won the Best Hygiene Measures by Region 2021 award.

The Best Hygiene Measures by Region 2021 award itself is part of the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards held by ACI, involving 400 airports in 95 countries.

This award is given by ACI to every airport that has new procedures and services in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic according to the wishes of the traveler to meet their needs, and to ensure that the airport environment remains clean and safe in the midst of the pandemic.

In the Asia-Pacific region, only 10 airports have won this award. Of the 10 airports, there are 6 airports in the ASEAN region which are all managed by PT Angkasa Pura II. Meanwhile, 3 airports are in China and 1 airport is in India.

The 6 AP II airports that won the Best Hygiene Measures by Region (Asia-Pacific) 2021 award are Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Tangerang), Sultan Thaha Airport (Jambi), Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport (Pekanbaru), Supadio Airport (Pontianak). ), Depati Amir Airport (Pangkalpinang), Kualanamu Airport (Deli Serdang).

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said this award from ACI was achieved thanks to the support from the community and airport staff who worked well even though they were on duty in the midst of a pandemic.

“AP II is very grateful that our 6 airports received the Best Hygiene Measures by Region (Asia-Pacific) award from ACI, which is a global institution that oversees airports in the world. This is in line with AP II's commitment to create a safe and comfortable airport for airplane passengers in the midst of a pandemic."

"We would like to thank all travelers who have supported and together we can follow the health protocols in the midst of the pandemic. We also thank all AP II airport staff and stakeholders who are able to do a good job in providing services even though they are in the midst of a pandemic," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

ACI stated that in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, every airport must be able to make adjustments and adopt new technology and determine various processes to accommodate customer wishes.

AP II made various innovations to ensure that health protocols were well maintained at all airports.

"Various innovations to strengthen health protocols and keep the airport hygienic were born and implemented for the first time at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia. Then, we apply this innovation at other AP II airports, which of course are also adapted to local conditions," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The innovations created by AP II to strengthen health protocols in the midst of a pandemic include the application of Biosecurity Management and Biosfatey Management.

-Biosecurity Management has programs:
1. Physical distancing: maintain a distance in every area of ​​the airport
2. Health screening: body temperature check, airport staff health check
3. Passenger touchless processing: touchless facilities in every area
4. Facility cleanliness: routine disinfection of all facilities at the airport
5. People protection: health protection programs for travelers and airport staff, starting from the mandatory use of PPE

-Meanwhile, Biosafety Management has programs:
1. Biohazard precautions: prevention and protection programs for everyone from the threat of COVID-19
2. Environment screening: keeping the environment clean and healthy, for example by applying good air circulation, using UV sterilizers and so on
3. Testing lab facilities: the availability of COVID-19 test locations at the airport
4. Infrastructure sterilization: disinfection in every airport building
5. Public health assurance: handling protocol for parties indicated to be infected with COVID-19

Muhammad Awaluddin said the application of Biosafety and Biosecurity Management must be carried out simultaneously, cannot stand alone.

"Through the implementation of health protocols in accordance with regulations and global best practices, Soekarno-Hatta Airport can operate 24 hours a day even though it is in the midst of a pandemic. Other AP II airports also continue to serve various flights to maintain national air connectivity and support the handling of the pandemic and national economic recovery," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The implementation of the health protocol is also in line with AP II's commitment to realizing Safe Travel in the midst of a pandemic.
