AP II and Telkom University hold a Forgiveness Meeting at Metaverse

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II, the manager of 20 airports in Indonesia, since 2016 until now has consistently fostered a digital culture within the company's internal and stakeholders who are directly related to the company.

President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin said the company must be able to respond to increasingly fast and rapid technological developments.

“In this technological era, AP II as a company in the field of public services has consistently digitized all aspects to be able to keep up with world developments and accommodate the needs of the community. Digitalization also increases efficiency and optimization so that the company's overall performance is getting better from year to year," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

In 2022, AP II will also adopt technology that supports the use of the metaverse. Metaverse itself can briefly be interpreted as a digital world that brings everyone together to interact closely with each other, even though they are not physically in the same location.

The global use of the metaverse in the near future is projected to be more widespread, where world-class companies have started to focus on this field.

As for AP II, after utilizing the metaverse in its internal activities, namely the First Quarter Leadership Meeting/2022 on January 31, 2022, the company again utilized the metaverse in a meeting held with Telkom University (Tel-U).

On February 4, 2022, AP II and Telkom University held a virtual Forgiveness Meeting in the metaverse. This Forgiveness Meeting in the context of AP II was asked to be a resource person to provide input for the future curriculum in the Telkom University postgraduate program.

"The use of metaverse in this formal meeting indicates that AP II as the airport manager continues to strengthen digital transformation and Telkom University, which is one of the best campuses in the field of technology, has been able to respond to world technological developments," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The AP II - Telkom University Facilitation Meeting through this metaverse was attended by AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin who was physically located in Jakarta, as well as Telkom University staff in Bandung, including the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Telkom University, Dr. Ratri Wahyuningtyas, S.T., M.M and Chair of the Tel-U Masters Management Study Program Siska Noviaristanti, Phd.

“Physically, the meeting participants are in two cities, namely Jakarta and Bandung, which are then combined in one location in the digital world with each meeting participant having an avatar. The use of this metaverse makes the meeting very fluid and the participants feel very close, even though they are physically in different cities. And, the use of the metaverse for this meeting is very relevant in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Telkom University staff are very enthusiastic about holding a virtual Forgiveness Meeting through metaverse.

"Thanks to AP II who came to be a resource person to provide input for the future curriculum, and also to initiate a meeting using the metaverse," explained the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Telkom University, Dr. Ratri Wahyuningtyas, S.T., M.M.

Head of the Tel-U Master of Management Study Program Siska Noviaristanti, Phd. said, "AP II's view as one of the industry players is needed to provide input regarding the curriculum in the future."

In holding a meeting using this metaverse, the equipment needed includes a Virtual Reality (VR) Set, a platform, and of course an internet network.

Muhammad Awaluddin in this virtual meeting conveyed strategies for airport operators to respond to the challenges that exist in the airport industry today and in the future.

"The business model in the airport sector must evolve and adapt to ensure growth in air traffic and increased commercial activity."

Furthermore, he explained, collaboration and synergy are important aspects for airport managers.

"Through synergy, airport managers can monetize existing assets, make new investments for infrastructure development, and utilize old assets to build new assets so that the company's assets become more," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The Forgiveness Meeting utilizing the metaverse conducted by AP II and Telkom University was held in about 1.5 hours, which was also witnessed by a number of students via the zoom platform.

Airport Metaverse
This year, AP II also focuses on utilizing the metaverse to introduce the Airport Metaverse.

In the initial stage, there are three Airport Metaverse programs, namely: Airport Metaverse Learning, Tourism Activity Center, and Augmented Airport Experience.
