Minister of Transportation inspects the Cargo Terminal and appreciates the Vaccination Center of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Bandara
Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) continues to maintain the performance of cargo transportation in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of efforts have been made by AP II, including coordinating closely with airlines to ensure smooth handling of cargo even in the midst of a pandemic so that it can accommodate requests and take advantage of existing potential.
On Friday, July 16, 2021, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi conducted a direct inspection of the Cargo Terminal activities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
On that occasion, the Minister of Transportation also emphasized the importance of maintaining the performance of cargo transportation in the midst of the declining movement of aircraft passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Today [Friday, July 16], I and the President Director of AP II directly inspected the condition of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Cargo Terminal. This is important to do to ensure that cargo transportation continues to run amidst the declining chart of passenger movements during the pandemic," said the Minister of Transportation.
The performance of cargo transportation at AP II airports this year has increased significantly compared to last year.
"During Semester I/2021, in the midst of this pandemic, cumulatively the total volume of cargo transportation at all AP II airports reached 353,819 tons, an increase of 30.24% compared to Semester I/2020," explained AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin.
The highest volume of cargo transportation in January - June 2021 was recorded at Soekarno-Hatta Airport with 271,769 tons, an increase of 29.68% compared to the same period the previous year.
Muhammad Awaluddin added, "The increase in cargo volume at AP II airports is due to the growth of freight forwarding which is driven among others from e-commerce activities, and most importantly the smooth handling of cargo at AP II airports. Close coordination is carried out with the Ministry of Transportation, Airport Authority, and also airlines regarding transport capacity, including using cargo planes [freighter] and services in the cargo area or Cargo Terminal," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

The Minister of Transportation's visit to the Cargo Terminal was also to directly observe the condition of cargo transportation at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at the Java - Bali Emergency PPKM which began on July 3.
"I want to see firsthand the condition of cargo transportation at Soekarno-Hatta Airport after the implementation of the Emergency PPKM," explained the Minister of Transportation.
Muhammad Awaluddin said the volume of cargo transportation during the Emergency PPKM period at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was in the range of 50,000 - 60,000 tons per day or relatively stable compared to before the Emergency PPKM.
"Cargo transportation activities at all AP II airports including Soekarno-Hatta Airport during this pandemic can be maintained thanks to the support of the Ministry of Transportation, Airport Authority and all stakeholders including airlines, Quarantine Center, Customs and Excise, and so on."
In the midst of this pandemic, since December 2020 the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Cargo Terminal has also successfully handled the arrival of a vaccine for COVID-19 which requires special methods and facilities.
