First in ASEAN, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Prepares Energy Management with Global Standard ISO 50001 for Eco-friendly Airport

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) is serious about implementing the concept of eco-friendly airport or green airport.

Today, Thursday 11 November 2021, PT Angkasa Pura II together with the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and MTR3 - United Nations Development Program (UNDP) officially held a kick off meeting to formulate an Energy Management System (Energy Management System) in order to obtain a global ISO 50001 certificate for Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Later, Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport will become the first airport in Indonesia and Southeast Asia to have a global ISO 50001 certificate.

In general, institutions that have successfully achieved the ISO 50001 global standard indicate that these institutions have an energy management system to establish energy policies, goals, energy targets, action plans and processes that focus on energy efficiency, among others by utilizing new and renewable energy (EBT). .

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the company needed an Energy Management System according to the global ISO 50001 certificate as a new standard in developing eco-friendly airports.

"We need new procedures, strategies, and SOPs [standard operating procedure]. Don't manage new things the old way. A new way is needed to accelerate the application of eco-friendly airports at AP II airports. Because, the massive use of new and renewable energy [EBT] is in sight, "said Muhammad Awaluddin when opening the kick off meeting.

"Energy conservation is a priority for PT Angkasa Pura II, as an effort to anticipate the company to the issue of global climate change. We have started at Soekarno-Hatta Airport by using EBT, namely PLTS in the Airport Operation Control Center [AOCC] building and electric taxi services operated by Grab and Blue Bird. Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be a point of interest for the use of new and renewable energy, ”added Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said the Energy Management System with a global standard of ISO 50001 was also an effort to reduce operational costs.

"The difficult situation in the midst of this pandemic has given us lessons, we have found new recipes for airport management that can reduce operational costs, one of which is the Energy Management System according to ISO 50001."

The energy management system for Terminal 3 can also be used at other airports.

"If we already have a standard or standard, then we can adjust the scale to be applied at other airports," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport itself is the largest passenger airplane terminal in Indonesia with a capacity of up to 25 million passengers per year.

In the same place, the Director of EBTKE Infrastructure Planning and Development Luh Nyoman Puspa Dewi said that until now in Indonesia there are only 113 companies that have received a global ISO 50001 certificate consisting of 2 certificates given to buildings / buildings, 64 certificates to industrial companies, and 47 certificates to energy companies.

"This is aimed at achieving energy savings and reducing greenhouse gases. This activity [ISO 50001 certification] can also have an impact on the performance of AP II, such as cost efficiency, "said Luh Nyoman Puspa Dewi.

Furthermore, Luh Nyoman Puspa Dewi said that energy conservation is one of the top priorities for many energy companies and state-owned companies in Indonesia along with the government's efforts to encourage companies to adopt better productivity with less emissions and waste.

Meanwhile at the MTRE3 - UNDP National Project Manager Boyke Lakaseru said that his party would provide technical assistance and support so that Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport could obtain an ISO 50001 certificate.

Boyke Lakaseru said there were 3 things that would be done in formulating an Energy Management System to achieve ISO 50001 certificate, first was determining a detailed framework and time frame (work plan & timeline). Then secondly, mapping company profiles related to energy, and third, including the mapping report of the Final Energy Management System and ISO 50001 Certification by TUV SUD in the first year.

The formulation of the Energy Management System for Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is a follow-up to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PT Angkasa Pura II and the Directorate General of EBTKE of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources regarding the Application of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Use of Renewable Energy at Airports. .
