PT Angkasa Pura II Assigns Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Personnel to Assist Sriwijaya SJ 182 SAR Operations

14 Jan 2021

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) supported the SAR Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 operation which crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

A number of personnel from Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) Division were assigned to be involved in the SAR operation.

VP of Corporate Communication of PT Angkasa Pura II Yado Yarismano said that the ARFF personnel were in charge of supporting operations at the Port of Tanjung Priok.

“ARFF personnel involved in SAR Sriwijaya SJ 182 operations have expertise as a Building Prevention Officer and Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighter. They are assigned to support the Basarnas Team at the SAR Operations Command Post in Tanjung Priok Port and on the ship, they do not dive because they don't have a license for that. "

Yado Yarismano said there was no time limit for ARFF personnel to be involved in this SAR operation.

"As long as personnel are needed, they will be assigned to the Tanjung Priok Port SAR Operations Post. In line with that, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport ARFF Division has made personnel arrangements so that they can meet the standards of readiness and readiness in maintaining the safety aspects of flights, especially at the airport, "said Yado Yarismano.

Yado Yarismano added, "The number of personnel involved in SAR Sriwijaya SJ 182 operations is adjusted to the needs in the field. For example, since last week 6 personnel have been assigned, where then the number of personnel can decrease and increase according to the needs of the Basarnas Team. "

ARFF Bandaran Soekarno-Hatta is one of the best ARFF divisions in Indonesia. The main task of ARFF is to handle emergencies both on the air side and on the land side at the airport according to the standards set by the regulator.

At least once a year, ARFF Divisions at all PT Angkasa Pura II airports hone their abilities and skills through the Airport Emergencey Exercise which is a simulated emergency handling.

Meanwhile, since last year, PT Angkasa Pura II has increased its training program based on Virtual Reality (VR) technology.

“The VR technology for training is very relevant in a situation like now. In the midst of this pandemic, it does not mean that the training and learning process has stopped for ARFF personnel, it should be more intense by using technology, one of which is VR technology, "said Yado Yarismano.

In this VR technology-based training, ARFF personnel train using the Fire Emergency Response module as a simulation in handling emergencies on the air side of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
