These are 6 Megatrends Issues Changing the Aviation Industry and How PT Angkasa Pura II Cope with Them

13 Dec 2020

Jakarta - The world's major developments (global megatrends) have had a significant impact on the aviation industry.

In the Global Megatrends and Aviation: The Path to Future Wise Organization webinar on December 11, 2020, which was opened by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and followed by global and national aviation industry players, it is known that there are 6 global megatrends that have a positive or reverse impact on the aviation industry.

The six issues are: climate change, global economic power shift, rapid urbanization, demographic changes, new technologies, and global connectedness. ).

Dr. Pierre Coutu, Chairman of the Aviation Strategies International (ASI) Institute based in Canada, said that one of the global megatrends issues facing aviation this year is global connectedness.

Global connectedness is defined as a world that is very closely connected (hyperconnected) through various networks of various types such as data, voice, multimedia and transportation.

“Airline network connectivity fulfills the need for economical and efficient travel. This connectedness also contributes to the spread of COVID-19 in the world, ”explained Pierre Coutu.

The global impact of megatrends on the airline industry, explains Pierre Coutu, is a change in demand, services and regulations. In line with that, the aviation industry responded through human resources, assets, systems / procedures and changes in organizational structure.

“Doing nothing is not an option. Massive transformation is needed so that the organization will be stronger in the future [future-wise organization], "explained Pierre Coutu.

In the same webinar, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said that the six issues included in global megatrends must be understood from global, political, economic, legal and demographic aspects.

"For AP II, this analysis of global megatrends helps establish a long-term strategy that is proactive, not reactive. This analysis can help us anticipate market developments and deal with changes in the industry. So, we can seize opportunities and minimize negative impacts, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin explained that AP II as the manager of 19 airports including Soekarno-Hatta Airport has formulated a strategic transformation program (Transformation Flagship) which has adopted an analysis of global issues of megatrends and the game changers industry.

"We are committed to always adapting to global megatrends, by making AP II transform through the Transformation Flagship program from 2016 to the present. This is a transformation program that is ongoing and never stops, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Transformation Flagship
The AP II Strategic Transformation Program consists of two stages, namely Transformation 1.0 (2016 - 2020) which focuses on building a corporate culture & basic digitalization, and Transformation 2.0 (2020 - 2024) which takes the theme The Great SHIFT 2024, which focuses on making companies more adaptive to the global. megatrends.

By the end of 2024, AP II will achieve its vision of becoming the number one airport operator in ASEAN.

The company achieves this vision by optimizing its business through a number of new business portfolios, including expanding the market to tourism and hospitality.

"We continuously analyze global megatrends, and in line with that we realize airports as places where stakeholders, various customers, parties or agencies meet and interact to carry out economic transactions in an ecosystem approach, not just an airport that is just a place to board and. get off the plane, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

"They need services and products that can accommodate their needs, and AP II is optimistic that they can build a comfortable airport for our customers, equipped with various products and services accordingly," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Through the Transformation Flagship program, AP II also develops infrastructure & technology so that the airport in the next 5 years can become an integrated hub where businesses and customers meet with ecosystem-based operations.

"On the service side, we will have technology that can realize the travel ecosystem. The technology can coordinate all systems and customer touch points. This requires the role of the Indonesia Airports application which is owned by AP II, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The implementation of this technology, for example, if a traveler experiences flight delays, the hotel reservation automatically adjusts.
