Jakarta - The flight traffic at PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) airport throughout October 2020 was quite enthusiastic amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On October 1 - 31, the number of passengers at 19 airports reached 2.14 million people, an increase of 19% compared to September 1 - 30 of 1.79 million people. In line with the increase in passenger numbers, aircraft movements increased by 10% from 23,879 flights to 26,304 flights.

Particularly at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the largest airport in Indonesia, the number of passengers during October 2020 was recorded at 1.25 million passengers or an increase of 20% from September 2020. The number of flights increased 12% to 15,537 flights.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the increase in the number of passengers and flights was influenced in part by the increasing confidence of the public in the health protocol at the company's airports.

"Through a health protocol with the concept of Biosafety and Biosecurity Management, PT Angkasa Pura II airport strives to ensure the health of travelers and airport staff and to keep the environment at the airport healthy. The main goal of the health protocol that we implement is to make airports safe, healthy and hygienic so that the aviation sector can optimally support the National Economic Recovery, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Long holiday at the end of October, the number of passengers 455,068 people
Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said that in October there was also a long holiday period from 28 October to 1 November 2020 which later became a driver of the aviation market.

"In the midst of high public confidence in the health protocol at PT Angkasa Pura II airports, at the end of October there is a long holiday. This combination has stimulated the aviation market, ”said Muhammad Awaluddin.

As for the long holiday period of 28 October - 1 November 2020, the number of aircraft passengers reached 455,068 passengers, an increase of 17% from the previous week of 21-25 October. The number of flights also increased by about 10% to 4,460 flights.

Records were also set during this long holiday period. At the peak of the return flow on November 1, the number of passengers reached 116,766 people, the highest daily since the pandemic hit. Likewise with aircraft movements, reaching 1,137 flights or the highest in the middle of the pandemic.

"As of November 1, the number of passengers has reached 50% than usual in pre-pandemic conditions, while flights reached 60%," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

PSC stimulus
The government's policy of providing a passenger service charge (PSC) stimulus was another factor driving increased flight traffic in October. Through this stimulus, airplane passengers do not need to pay PSCs at 5 PT Angkasa Pura II airports so that flight ticket prices can be lower.
The five airports are Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma, Kualanamu, Banyuwangi and Silangit.

Muhammad Awaluddin said, "The five airports contribute around 60% - 70% of the total number of passengers at PT Angkasa Pura II's 19 airports. The government's decision to provide PSC stimuli to 5 airports in the context of the National Economic Recovery [PEN] program is very appropriate. We thank the government for this stimulus. "

International route
As for the last two months of 2020, namely November and December, PT Angkasa Pura II estimates that international routes will begin to increase in addition to domestic routes that continue to recover.

One of the reasons for the rise of international routes is the opening of Umrah flights starting November 1.
