Airport 4.0 Becomes the Basis for the Company's Strategic Transformation

Jakarta - The COVID-19 pandemic presents the toughest challenges in the history of aviation.

As an effort to face challenges, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) utilizes technology to maintain flight activities & connectivity. This is in line with the direction of Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir so that SOEs are proactive in adapting digitally in business processes so as to create effectiveness and efficiency in the midst of a pandemic.

"The Ministry of BUMN always supports SOEs to increase their digital capabilities to become part of the global industry. We are trying to do this with the full support of the Ministry of BUMN, "said President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin.

The main use of technology at PT Angkasa Pura II airport in the midst of a pandemic is to support the concept of Biosafety and Biosecurity Management.

Biosecurity Management to protect the public from the dangers of COVID-19, while Biosafety Management attempts to keep the environment and infrastructure healthy, safe and hygienic.

The implementation of technology applied in these two concepts, such as the use of a thermal scanner to detect body temperature massively, the use of the Travelation application to reduce contact, the Video Customer Assistant (VICA) service which provides virtual assistance to the public, and the provision of smart vending machines with tool products. personal protection (PPE).

Muhammad Awaluddin said the use of technology in the midst of a pandemic was also carried out to improve airport operations.

“In the midst of this pandemic, we are launching virtual reality-based training for airport operational staff so that they can train safely. In addition, in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area, to be exact, the AOCC building has been operating the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) technology since September 2020 as an effort to increase operational efficiency, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added that the new technology introduced in the midst of this pandemic complements the technology that was already used before the pandemic, namely the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport and the Terminal Operation Center (TOC) at other airports, which are infrastructure-based information technology to ensure airport operations run smoothly in any conditions, including during a pandemic.

"In the AOCC, we have also developed an information technology system, namely Airport Collaborative Decision Making [A-CDM] which was used during this pandemic to make flight operations effective and efficient," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

In the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area, the company has an Airport Learning Center as a training center equipped with modern technology to support PT Angkasa Pura II to become a Digitally Ready Enterprise.

Muhammad Awaluddin said, "Since 4 years ago AP II started digital transformation so that in the midst of this pandemic we quickly adapted by providing technology-based services and supported by existing technology so that all airports can continue to operate and maintain service levels."

"Last week, we launched a Second Curve Transformation for the 2020 - 2024 period with a focus on including the development of Airport Big Data, Airport Platform Integrator, Robotic Airport Services and Electric / Manless Transportation," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

This Second Curve Transformation is the company's effort to enter the Airport 4.0 era, which prioritizes airport management through artificial intelligence, internet of things, big data analytics, roboting, automation, virtual reality to augmented reality.

Global recognition
In addition to supporting airport operations to ensure air connectivity is maintained, the technology and digitization used have also brought PT Angkasa Pura II airports to global recognition.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is Indonesia's main gateway to the 2020 World's Top 100 Airports in the 2020 Skytrax World Airport Awards, has successfully climbed the rankings to position 35, up from 2019 (ranking 40), 2018 (ranked (45), 2017 (ranked 44), and 2016 (ranked 63rd).

Not only that, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has been named an airport with strict health protocols to prevent COVID-19, has received a Safe Travel Score rating of 4.09 from the Safe Travel Barometer.

"This year, in the midst of a pandemic, 9 airports of PT Angkasa Pura II also officially received 30 Airport Service Quality Awards from ACI," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

The airports that received the award were: Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Depati Amir, Raja Haji Fisabilillah, Silangit, Husein Sastranegara, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II, Sultan Syarif Kasim II and Supadio.
