PT Angkasa Pura II Expands Portfolio to the New Renewable Energy Sector and Health Facilities

22 Oct 2020

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), which manages 19 airports in Indonesia, is expanding its portfolio to the new renewable energy (EBT) sector and health care facilities to support the company's core business.

This strategy is one of the company's efforts in implementing Business Survival Initiatives in the midst of a pandemic and optimizing it through pivoting businesses or looking for opportunities.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that the expansion of the portfolio to EBT and healthcare facilites is also the company's effort to enter into promising businesses in the future.

"In the midst of this pandemic, we are trying to maintain and increase the contribution of the non-aeronautical business by expanding our portfolio. Currently, the aeronautics business is slowly increasing in line with the increase in flight traffic, but it is still under normal conditions, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

As for today, 22 October 2020, PT Angkasa Pura II signed a memorandum of understanding (Memorandum of Understanding / MoU) with the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources regarding the Application of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Use of Renewable Energy at Airports.

Muhammad Awaluddin said that through this MoU, more intensive discussions were held with the Directorate General of EBTKE for the application of new and renewable energy at the airport managed by the company.

Both parties, Muhammad Awaluddin continued, could carry out research, exchange information and develop technology related to energy conservation at airports, use of renewable energy at airports, increase energy efficiency, energy management and contribute to reducing gas emissions.

"We ask for assistance from the Directorate General of EBTKE to create an energy management concept in order to realize a green airport at PT Angkasa Pura II airport. The pilot project will be carried out at Banyuwangi Airport, East Java, because the construction there has adopted a green airport direction. "

"In the next 2 years, we are targeting the use of EBT at PT Angkasa Pura II airports to reach 10% of the total usage. For example, currently the electricity supply to Soekarno-Hatta Airport is 65 megawatts and in the next 2 years we are targeting the supply from EBT to replace the 6.5 megawatts of the supply, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Meanwhile, in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area, EBT has been used. using a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) on the roof of the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) building with a maximum capacity of 241 kWp. The PLTS is an entry point for new and renewable energy to be used more optimally at PT Angkasa Pura II airports.

Meanwhile, ESDM Ministry Director General EBTKE FX Sutijastoto said, "This [MoU PT Angkasa Pura II - Ditjen EBTKE] is very important because globally there has been a transformation of energy, a change from fossil energy to new and renewable energy."

PT Angkasa Pura II today also signed an MoU with PT Bio Farma (Persero) to discuss health care facilities at PT Angkasa Pura II airports.

The MoU was signed by the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II and the President Director of PT Bio Farma Honesti Basyir.

"Through the MoU, we will discuss in more detail about health care facilities, including plans to operate Laboratory Test Facilities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport along with all procedures, facilities and infrastructure," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

The Laboratory Test Facilites at Soekarno-Hatta Airport will have the ability to perform PCR tests on airplane passengers.
