Digital Transformation Entering a New Chapter, PT Angkasa Pura II Officially Opens ARFF Training Based on Virtual Reality Technology

A total of 20 ARFF personnel became the first batch

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) today, 25 September 2020, is entering a new chapter in the company's digital transformation journey by officially opening training based on virtual reality technology

The first batch of virtual reality-based training consisted of 20 airport personnel serving in the Aviation Accident Relief and Fire Fighting Unit (PKP-PK), also known as Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF).

"Today is a new achievement for PT Angkasa Pura II in the journey of digital transformation which was launched 4 years ago. In the midst of this pandemic, it does not mean that the training and learning processes stop, on the contrary we can be more intense by using technology, one of which is virtual reality technology, ”explained PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin when opening the inaugural class of ARFF training based on virtual reality technology.

“The virtual reality technology for training is very relevant in the current situation. This technology is also easy and fast for peers to understand. The use of virtual reality technology is an affirmation of PT Angkasa Pura II to always be committed to carrying out digital transformation and always using the latest technologies in the daily operational activities of the company, "added Muhammad Awaluddin.

In this virtual reality technology-based training for ARFF personnel, the module used is Fire Emergency Response as a simulation in handling emergency situations on the air side of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Through this module, participants are simulated as drivers of the Oshkosh 3000 foam tender vehicle, which is one of the main fleets in handling emergencies at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The module also has a complete Soekarno-Hatta air side landscape such as runway, taxiway, apron and so on.

In the future, various other modules will be prepared in the ARFF training.

Muhammad Awaluddin said that after the ARFF unit, virtual reality-based training would be implemented for Aviation Security (Avsec) and Apron Movement Control (AMC) units.

"The three units, namely ARFF, Avsec and AMC, are mandatory operating units so that the airport can operate with 3S + 1CC based standards and procedures. Virtual reality technology-based training itself does not take over the entire training process, but complements and makes it better, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Airport Digital Expedition Academy
The curriculum and training modules based on virtual reality technology are under the Airport Digital Expedition Academy working group, which is part of the Airport Learning Center (ALC) PT. Angkasa Pura II.

ALC itself was formed as a Center of Excellence (center of excellence) to achieve three main goals, namely the birth of reliable leaders (Center of Chiefship), forming personnel with in-depth knowledge of airport services (Center of Competence), and realizing the achievement of global standards through world-class certification in all airports of PT Angkasa Pura II (Center of Certification).

"All employees of PT Angkasa Pura II must understand this new constellation, where VR technology-based training will become a common thing. VR Training here includes virtual classes and virtual content. Training and learning are not limited to space anymore, for example instructors at Kualanamu Airport can still provide material for training participants at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
