Flights Breaking Records at PT Angkasa Pura II Airport During Long Weekend, Smooth and Optimal Service

The domestic market helps the recovery of the national aviation sector

Jakarta - The long weekend of August 20-23, 2020, is the busiest period at PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) 's 19 airports since the global pandemic COVID-19.

On August 20, aircraft movements at 19 airports reached 1,026 flights with 85,462 passengers.

Then on August 21 there were 883 flights with 54,958 passengers, while on August 22 there were 867 flights with 60,683 passengers.

The highest flight traffic was on August 23, which reached 1,045 flights with the number of passengers reaching around 95,000 passengers, where this number of flights and passengers is also the highest since April 1, 2020.

Cumulatively, on the long holiday from 20 to 23 August 2020, there were 3,821 flights carrying around 296,000 passengers at 19 PT Angkasa Pura II airports.

“Air traffic during the long weekend was quite high. On August 23, the number of flights and passengers on planes was the highest since April 1, or when the pandemic started to impact the national aviation sector. In the midst of high flights, PT Angkasa Pura II airports remain, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said that activities at 19 PT Angkasa Pura airports during the 4-day long holiday yesterday went very smoothly by implementing strict health protocols.

"In the midst of high flights, health protocols in the midst of a pandemic can be implemented strictly, flight operations run smoothly, and services can be performed optimally at PT Angkasa Pura II airport," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Recover slowly
As for aviation traffic in general since the last 1 month, it has shown an increase, for example at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is the busiest airport in Indonesia.

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the record for flight frequency was broken three times. First, on August 14 the number of flights reached 524 flights or the highest during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, the record was broken on August 20 with 530 flights, and then on August 23 the flight frequency returned to the highest number, namely 540 flights.

Muhammad Awaluddin said that Indonesia has a large enough domestic aviation market so that it can help the aviation sector to be able to start recovery in the midst of adapting to new habits.

"The aviation sector in countries that have a large domestic aviation market such as Indonesia, the United States and China, may be able to start the recovery phase earlier," Muhammad Awaluddin explained.
