Recovering Flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, PT Angkasa Pura II Optimizes the Capacity of Terminal 2 and Terminal 3

21 Jul 2020

Starting July 23, 2020, Citilink moves to Terminal 3

Jakarta - Aviation traffic has gradually recovered at PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) airports including Indonesia's main gate, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

In this month, the average number of flights in Soekarno-Hatta was around 400-430 flights / day or increased significantly compared to the previous months of around 200 flights / day. This amount of traffic is still far from the numbers in the normal period before the COVID-19 pandemic, but in recent times the trend of flight traffic has strengthened.

The time slot utilization is also increasing where on July 1 - 20 2020 has reached around 34% from previously only around 10%.

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Director of Operations & Services Muhamad Wasid said increased flight traffic and increased slot time utilization were also followed by increased passenger capacity utilization at Terminal 2 Soekarno-Hatta.

"In the midst of COVID-19 Soekarno-Hatta operates with Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. This month, flight traffic has begun to recover and Terminal 2 serves up to 70% of total passengers in Soekarno-Hatta, while 30% is served through Terminal 3. "

"Seeing this condition, we will balance so that Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 each terminal can serve 50% of the total passengers in Soekarno-Hatta," Muhamad Wasid said.

Furthermore, Muhammad Wasid said that balancing the terminal capacity utilization was carried out by moving Citilink flights from Terminal 2D to Terminal 3, and some flights in Terminal 2E to 2D began on July 23, 2020.

Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Agus Haryadi said starting July 23, 2020 all Citilink passengers will process departure and arrival at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"Coordination and preparation have been carried out by PT Angkasa Pura II and Citilink so that the operational shift to Terminal 3 starting on July 23, 2020 will run smoothly. Through this policy, Soekarno-Hatta can operate better in serving aircraft passengers, "explained Agus Haryadi.

Thus, Agus Harydi said, later in Terminal 3 domestic flights from Garuda Indonesia and Citilink will be served. At Terminal 3 there are also currently international flight routes operated by national and foreign airlines.

A safe, healthy and hygienic airport
Along with the recovery of aviation traffic, PT Angkasa Pura II also tightened health and hygiene protocols to create a safe airport (Safe Airport), a healthy airport (Healthy Airport) and a hygienic airport (Hygiene Airport).

Increasing the number of passengers must always be followed by the readiness and alertness of PT Angkasa Pura II personnel and other stakeholders at the airport in conducting surveillance and overseeing the implementation of the protocol in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The main purpose of PT Angkasa Pura II along with other stakeholders is to realize Safe Airport, Healthy Airport and Hygiene Airport in order to maintain public confidence in air transportation," Muhamad Wasid said.

Safe Airport, Healthy Airport and Hygiene Airport are among others achieved through various additional facilities such as the elevator button pedals, the spread of hand sanitizers and sinks, UV Sterilizer at various points, spraying disinfectants in all areas routinely, the obligation to use masks, air circulation that is both at the terminal, as well as meeting various protocols as an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
