PT Angkasa Pura II Invites Stakeholders Strengthen Collaboration Resolve 3 Issues in Aviation Business

Jakarta - The aviation sector in the world is currently depressed by the COVID-19 pandemic, no exception in Indonesia.

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said there was a need for increased collaboration among stakeholders to bring the airline sector back into a rebound.

"The national aviation sector has the ability to contribute greatly in supporting the activities and the Indonesian economy. Three advantages in the mode of air transportation are flexibility to support the movement of people, then capacity for large mobilization, and connectivity to unite Indonesia, which is an archipelago. "

"Do not let the three advantages possessed by the aviation sector just disappear because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There must be an improvement so that the contribution of the aviation sector is maintained and improved during this new adaptation period, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin when discussing with a number of national and global aviation stakeholders in the Webinar Center for Strategic and Aviation Studies (CSAS).

Muhammad Awaluddin said that currently there were three issues that had to be resolved by air transportation stakeholders, namely related to flight time slots, flight routes and flight frequencies in one route.

"Flight slot time must be maximized, then flight routes must be re-activated, and flight frequencies on active routes must be increased from what is now."

In the midst of this pandemic, continued Muhammad Awaluddin, PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport operator will maximize flight slot time at the airport.

"We encourage the distribution of flight time slots more evenly. Communication will be carried out with related parties including airlines so that there are no more mutual requests for flights only at certain hours, so there are many alternative flight hour choices for service users, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin explained, PT Angkasa Pura II will discuss with the airline so that routes that are currently not active can be re-opened. We will jointly discuss this looking at destination routes that become needs and opportunities. In addition, flight frequencies on active routes will also be discussed for further improvement.

"The current obstacle is that it is difficult for people to travel partly because the route is not available and flight frequency is small, for example on one route there are only 1-2 flights per day. We have to think about how all of these air transportation stakeholders can together foster public trust, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Community trust is also fostered by complying with procedures that prioritize flight health, safety and security.

Technology Utilization

Muhammad Awaluddin in the CSAS Webinar, which was also attended by ICAO Expert, said that strict procedures had to be carried out and were not negotiable, so that what stakeholders could do was how the community could easily undergo the procedure.

"The Ministry of Transportation has issued regulations that allow technological support in airport operations. The use of this technology must be maximized by stakeholders to make it easier for aircraft passengers to undergo procedures so that slot time capacity and passenger movement can also be increased, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

As for the SE Director General of Civil Aviation No. 13/2020, in determining flight slot time at the airport, one that is taken into account is the capacity at the passenger terminal at busy times by taking into account the area, configuration of airport terminal facilities and the application of technology.

One of the digital technologies to make it easier for passengers to undergo procedures at the airport is through the Travel application which was initiated by PT Angkasa Pura II to digitally check passenger travel documents.

Through Travelation, the capacity of PT Angkasa Pura II airports can be determined flexibly.

"The use of digital technology is growing public confidence in addition to making slot time capacity can be increased in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

At present the scheduled airlines have operated entirely at the airports of PT Angkasa Pura II. The airlines are Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air, NAM Air, Wings Air, AirAsia Indonesia, Trigana Air, Airfast to Susi Air.

PT Angkasa Pura II initiated increased collaboration with airlines to resolve three issues (slot time, flight routes, flight route frequencies) so that in July 2020 the aviation sector could enter a recovery period amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
