Revitalization of Terminals 1C and 2F continues
Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic serving all flights in Terminal 2D and 2E and Terminal 3. For the time being, Terminal 1 (1A, 1B, 1C) and Terminal 2F are not operated.
President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin said this decision was based on 3 considerations.
The first consideration is the adjustment of operational patterns in the midst of a pandemic to make Soekarno-Hatta operate effectively. There are 4 categories of operational patterns established by PT Angkasa Pura II, namely Normal Operation, Slow Down Operation and Minimum Operation Level I and Drinking Operation Level II.
As for Soekarno-Hatta, the Minimum Operation Level I operational pattern has been established, adjusting to existing flight traffic.
"Currently the entire terminal capacity in Soekarno-Hatta [Terminals 1, 2 and 3] can accommodate up to around 45 million passengers per year. Then, we adjusted the operational patterns so that Soekarno-Hatta could operate effectively. Adjustment of operational patterns is done by closing Terminal 1 and Terminal 2F. Meanwhile Terminal 2D and 2E and Terminal 3 are the values that are most capable of accommodating passenger flow with dynamic departure and arrival procedures in the middle of a pandemic, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.
"The closure of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2F is also based on the Second consideration, namely operational effectiveness. All flights are now operated by Terminal 2D & 2E and Terminal 3. Thus, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is currently operating effectively and efficiently, staying on standby 24 hours, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
Muhammad Awaluddin said that the closure of Terminals 1 and 2F was temporary and could be reopened at any time according to the development of conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"All PT Angkasa Pura II airports, including Soekarno-Hatta, apply the concepts of Agile Operation, Resilience Operation and Lean Operation, so that they can operate following the dynamic procedures set by the regulator and the development and dynamics of existing airport operations," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
Then, consideration of the Third closure of Terminals 1 and 2F was carried out in order to accelerate the revitalization program of the terminal building which is currently still ongoing in Terminal 1C and Terminal 2F.
The revitalization of Terminal 1C and Terminal 2F is part of the overall revitalization of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 buildings, where this is the first time since Soekarno-Hatta Airport was inaugurated in 1985.
After revitalization, the capacity of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 has increased from currently only 9 million passenger movements per year to 18 million each year.
"PT Angkasa Pura II is evaluating the use of capital expenditure [Capex Disbursement] this year. Among other things, Capex is only used for multiyears projects and is considered very important. Revitalization of Terminals 1C and 2F is included in the priority projects, as well as the formulation of planning / design of Terminal 4 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
At present the airlines operating in Soekarno-Hatta are:
- Terminal 2D: Citilink, Sriwijaya, Airfast, Trigana Air, NAM Air, Express Air
- Terminal 2E: AirAsia Indonesia (to operate 19 June 2020), Batik Air and Lion Air
- Terminal 3: Garuda Indonesia (domestic & international), Cathay Pacific, Ethiopian Airlines, All Nippon Airlines, Japan Airlines, Lion Air (international), Korean Air, Qatar Airways, Thai Lion, Singapore Airlines.
