Soekarno-Hatta Airport Limit Flight Frequency and Number of Passenger Aircraft, And Implement New Queue Systems

15 May 2020

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) together with stakeholders at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport made a new policy to ensure the smoothness and creation of physical distance for prospective passengers when processing departure of domestic routes amid the implementation of Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB).

The new policy has been implemented starting today, Friday 15 May 2020, in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the new policy was restructuring the passenger queue system, limiting flight frequencies, and ensuring the number of passengers on each flight was only 50% of the aircraft's seat capacity.

"We have conducted an evaluation and then implemented a new policy. As of this morning, May 15, 2020, the departure process of passengers on domestic routes went smoothly in Soekarno-Hatta, both in Terminals 2 and 3," Muhammad Awaluddin said.

Passenger Queue System
The passenger queue system at Terminal 2 is now divided into 4 posts, where the first post is verification of prospective passenger documents carried out on the sidewalk or near the entrance to the terminal building. Then, the second post in the terminal building is a place where potential passengers fill out a Health Alert Card (HAC) document and epidemiological forms, as well as body temperature measurements.

After that the prospective passenger enters the first checkpoint (SCP I) to be later verified by a health certificate and medical tests by Port Health Office personnel. Then the potential passenger goes to the check-in counter to verify all documents and check-in process.

As is known, according to Circular No. 4/2020 on Travel Restrictions Criteria for People in the Context of Handling COVID-19 states that each prospective passenger of the aircraft must fulfill the documents needed to be completed before being allowed to fly. . Required documents must include flight tickets, official certificates, COVID-19 free health certificates, and others.

PT Angkasa Pura II requested that prospective passengers be able to understand the document verification process which indeed made the departure process not as fast as in normal conditions. Prospective passengers must follow the signs in order to realize physical distance.

"Through this new queuing system, the flow of passengers this morning is very smooth when processing domestic departures at Terminal 2. In general, the same domestic departure procedures are carried out in Terminal 3, only adjustments are made according to the shape of the terminal. We hope this situation can be maintained," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Flight Frequency Limits
In addition to rearranging the queue system, stakeholders in Soekarno-Hatta also agreed to limit flight frequencies.

It has been agreed that the flight slot will only be 5-7 flights per hour in Terminal 2 so it does not accumulate at certain hours.

As in the middle of this pandemic, flights in Soekarno-Hatta every day around 200 flights.

Limitation on Number of Passengers
The stakeholders also agreed that the airline will only carry passengers no more than 50% of the total aircraft seat capacity on each flight, which is also in accordance with Minister of Transportation Regulation No. PM 18 of 2020 concerning Transportation Control in the Context of Preventing the Spread of COVID-19.

The limited number of passengers supports physical distance during flights and also supports the smooth process of departure.

In the midst of this pandemic, the door to Soekarno-Hatta's departure is in Terminal 2 - Gate 4 and Terminal 3 - Gate 3.

"Limitation of flight slots per hour and a maximum of 50% of the number of passengers carried on each flight is also important in maintaining smoothness and physical distance during the departure process," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

As of today, May 15, 2020, the planned departure of domestic routes at Terminal 2 Soekarno-Hatta are: Lion Air (1 flight), Batik Air (15 flights), Citilink (9 flights).

As for domestic route arrivals at Terminal 2: Lion Air (2 flights), Batik Air (15 flights), Citilink (10 flights).
