Cost savings are key so that PT Angkasa Pura II Airport remains optimal in the midst of the Pandemic COVID-19

Jakarta - The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on the national and global aviation industry where the number of airplane passengers and aircraft traffic movements has decreased.
 
The most important prevention efforts to spread COVID-19 are through social distancing. Everyone is advised to remain at home and not to travel by plane.
 
Correspondingly, a number of regions in Indonesia have implemented Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) to reduce the spread of the virus.
 
As according to Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 25/2020, all commercial airlines carrying passengers on domestic routes are currently prohibited from operating in areas that have implemented PSBB and areas with red zone status.
 
In responding to this condition, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) made operational cost savings in 19 airports managed by the company.
 
PT Angkasa Pura II's Director of Engineering Agus Wialdi said that one of the focuses now was to save on operational costs while ensuring the airport remained operational to maintain national air transportation connectivity.
 
"Saving is one of the keys in responding to the COVID-19 challenge. PT Angkasa Pura II Airport is currently operating more simply than normal conditions, adjusting also to passenger and flight traffic. "
 
Agus Wialdi said the implementation of operational savings, among others, such as at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, namely to temporarily stop the operation of Skytrain to be substituted by optimizing shuttle buses as inter-terminal public transportation. At present, the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in Soekarno-Hatta is also closed where in addition to being able to save also to support physical distribution.
 
"In general, the biggest operational cost savings are in electricity usage. We are saving electricity usage in all airports up to around 46%. "
 
"Electricity savings are done among others by reducing the use of non-priority facilities such as air conditioning and so on, while maintaining security, safety, health and service aspects," Agus Wialdi said.
 
In addition to electricity, the airport of PT Angkasa Pura II also saved up to 60% in clean water use as well as savings in the use of operational vehicles in the airport area both on the air side and on the land side.
 
In addition to saving operational costs, PT Angkasa Pura II also made savings / reduction in maintenance costs for non-priority or non-urgent facilities.
 
Very strict savings are also applied to capital expenditure (capex), where capex will only be used for needs that are considered very necessary taking into account the current situation and conditions.
 
The capex savings also include portions previously planned for development at the State Owned Goods Utilization Cooperation (KSP BMN) airports namely Radin Inten II (Lampung), HAS Hanandjoeddin (Belitung), Fatmawati Soekarno (Bengkulu) and Tjilik Riwut (Palangkaraya) .
 
"Through various cost savings, it is possible for all PT Angkasa Pura II airports to operate optimally and always be ready to serve various flights that are still permitted according to Permenhub No. 25/2020, including flights in order to overcome COVID-19, "said Agus Wialdi.
 
Furthermore, Agus Wialdi explained, with these savings, PT Angkasa Pura II airport can quickly optimize all resources to serve the increasing passenger and airplane traffic when COVID-19 can be controlled.
