Trends in Airplane Passenger Movement in Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma Show Jakarta Residents Positive Responses to Appeal Remain at Home

Jakarta - The government's appeal not to travel outside the city and stay at home and work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic is responded well by Jakarta residents when they see trends in aircraft passenger movements.

Jakarta itself is a province with the most COVID-19 cases in Indonesia and residents of the Capital City are expected not to travel outside the city.

Correspondingly, residents of Jakarta and its surroundings did reduce traveling by plane through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Banten) and Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta).

"If you look at the data in the 14-day work from home and stay at home period or on 16-29 March 2020, there is a downward trend in the movement of aircraft passengers in Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma, which indicates that the public is responding well to the government's appeal in breaking the chain of COVID distribution 19, "said President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin.

In the first 7 days of stay at home and work form home periods (March 16-22), the number of passengers on domestic flight planes in Soekarno-Hatta was recorded at 763,633, and on the second 7 days (March 23-29) to 500,080 or decreased by 34.51 %. Meanwhile, aircraft movements fell 34.22% from 6,069 movements to 3,992 movements.

At Halim Perdanakusuma, on the first 7 days (March 16-22) the number of domestic route passengers was recorded at 86,653 passengers, and decreased by 35.07% to 56,265 passengers on the second 7 days (March 23-29). Along with that, aircraft movements also decreased by 18.82% or from 1,217 movements to 988 movements.

Muhammad Awaluddin said the data also indicated that passengers traveling outside Jakarta would return to Jakarta as soon as possible.

"The movement of planes entering Jakarta is higher compared to exiting Jakarta. The data also states that passengers leaving Jakarta will immediately return to Jakarta. "

The Top 10 domestic route destinations from Soekarno-Hatta are Medan, Palembang, Padang, Pontianak, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Denpasar, Balikpapan and Ujung Pandang.
