Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II carried out sterilization of registered baggage belonging to international flight passengers arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
The checked baggage referred to is the suitcase / bag / luggage of the passengers put into the aircraft hull.
The sterilization itself is carried out by spraying disinfectant liquid into all checked baggage that has just been unloaded from the aircraft hull in order to minimize or prevent the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus.
Spraying disinfectant liquid is precisely done in the break down area or when checked baggage is prepared to go to the conveyor belt for baggage collection by passenger aircraft in the arrival terminal.
PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the spraying of disinfectants was carried out on checked baggage on every international flight that arrived without exception.
"Per month the number of international flights arriving at Soekarno-Hatta ranges from 5,000 - 6,000 flights. Meanwhile, every day there are about 6,000 koli baggage recorded on international routes. We will sterilize all checked baggage on international flights that arrive with disinfectant liquid. "
"This was first done in Soekarno-Hatta which is the Main Gateway of Indonesia, and later followed at other international airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura II," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
After being carried out in full on checked baggage on international routes, in the future spraying disinfectant liquid is also carried out on checked baggage on domestic routes.
Previously, PT Angkasa Pura II had also sprayed disinfectant liquid in all areas of the passenger terminal at airports under the company. Spraying is done every day in all facilities that intersect directly with passengers.
"We continue to expand efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Previous spraying of disinfectants has been carried out in the passenger terminal and is still ongoing every day. Then it will be extended to the checked baggage of international flights that have just arrived, and in the near future spraying disinfectants will be carried out on the air side or the airside, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.
The spraying of disinfectant liquid in Soekarno-Hatta was carried out by a subsidiary of PT Angkasa Pura II, PT Angkasa Pura Solusi.
PT Angkasa Pura VP of Operations Solution Toyib Fanani said the disinfectant liquid used was one that contained the active ingredient Hydrogen Peroxida.
"Specifically spraying disinfectants for baggage carrying international routes arriving at Soekarno-Hatta was carried out with jet sprayers to maximize sterilization. While in the area of passenger terminals, offices and non-terminal buildings use ordinary sprayers, "said Toyib Fanani.
Spraying of disinfectants in Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta is done at night or when it is not rush hour. Meanwhile spraying in non-terminal buildings is carried out during the day.
