Prevent Corona Virus, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Setop While Flights to and from China Starts on February 5, 2020

Jakarta - Flight passengers on the Indonesia - China route and vice versa have been postponed starting Wednesday, 5 February 2020, at 00.00 WIB until an undetermined time according to the government's decision as an effort to prevent the spread of the Corona virus into the country.

Accordingly, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has also temporarily suspended flight services from Jakarta to a number of cities in China.

The PT Angkasa Pura II airport that serves regular or scheduled flights to China is only Soekarno-Hatta.

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the company had coordinated with all stakeholders related to this decision.

"We have prepared this with all stakeholders, especially all airlines that serve flights from Jakarta - China and vice versa. We hope that the temporary suspension of flights can be understood by all parties. "

"PT Angkasa Pura II strongly supports efforts to prevent the entry of Corona virus. In Soekarno-Hatta, a thermal scanner has been operated, and surveillance syndrome has been carried out to identify if there are passengers who have contracted the Corona virus, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Currently there are 16 permits for flight routes from Soekarno-Hatta to China and vice versa. The route permit is to serve flights to and from Beijing, Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao'an, Shanghai Pudong, Kunming, Nanning, Haikou Meilan, Fuzhou Changle, and Xiamen Gaoqi.

Total aircraft movements serving these routes total 143 aircraft movements per week.

The airlines serving flights to and from China are Air China, Southern China, Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Lion Air, Xiamen, Eastern China, Sriwijaya Air, and Federal Express.

"There are around 16-20 flight slots per day which are idle because flights to and from China are temporarily closed, which is a new opportunity for Soekarno-Hatta to be able to expand flight connectivity to other countries or maximize existing routes," he said. Muhammad Awaluddin.

"The market that can be worked on with more space is the West Asian route such as India, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, then other regions namely Turkey and Australia," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia with a number of passengers reaching around 60-70 million passengers per year.
