WHO Declares Emergency, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Activates Command Post for Monitoring Corona Virus Outbreak

31 Jan 2020

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) activated the Coronavirus Plague Alert Monitoring Command Post at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The post, located in the Terminal 1 area, is a command and coordination center for preventing the Corona virus from spreading at the Indonesian Main Door, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Meanwhile, the main prevention efforts are still being carried out at the passenger terminal of the aircraft through monitoring with thermal scanners and surveillance syndrome.

The personnel on duty at the post are elements of the National Facilitation Committee (FAL) consisting of stakeholders in Soekarno-Hatta including PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport operator and the Port Health Office (KKP), Animal Quarantine and Airport Plants, Fish Quarantine, Immigration , Customs and Excise, and so on,

The post is equipped with a variety of medical equipment, CCTV monitors that monitor all passenger terminals, as well as the latest technological systems to speed up responses in tackling or preventing the spread of the Corona virus.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said various efforts would be made to minimize the potential spread of the Corona virus to Indonesia.

"Prevention efforts at the passenger terminal through thermal scanners and surveillance syndrome coupled with the activation of the Standby Command Post, we hope the potential for the spread of the Corona virus in Indonesia is getting smaller. Various efforts will be made by PT Angkasa Pura II to take precautions at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. "

"The activation of the Alert Post also sees the latest developments in which the WHO has stated that the Corona case is an International Public Health Emergency. We prepared Soekarno-Hatta as well as possible to anticipate the potential spread of this virus, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

PT Angkasa Pura II has also prepared a contingency plan in accordance with PM 61 of 2015 concerning Air Facilitation (FAL), if there are known aircraft arriving with passengers infected with the Corona virus.

Scenarios of the contingency plan include the aircraft will be given a landing site and placed into isolation or quarantine, after the flight captain reported there were passengers suspected of being infected.

The health quarantine official will then approve the health quarantine after checking the health quarantine document, examining public health risk factors and health checks on people.

"For quarantine planes where aircraft carriers are suspected of carrying infected passengers, we have prepared them in a remote area which is quite far from the passenger terminal. The aircraft itself will be sterilized, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said before this Corona virus there were only 4 cases declared as International Public Health Emergency, namely H1N1 Flu Pandemic (2009), Ebola outbreak in West Africa (2014), Polio outbreak (2014), and Zika virus and Ebola outbreak in Congo (2016).

"Seeing this, we also encourage medical personnel to always meet the needs of each PT Angkasa Pura II airport. We will also distribute masks to airplane passengers at airports, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The spread of the Corona virus began in Wuhan, China, where the number of sufferers continues to grow. On January 27, 2019 the number of sufferers in China was 5,974 people, then it rose to 6,973 people (January 28), then 9,239 people (January 29), then 12,167 people (January 30), and 15,238 people until this morning (January 31).

Muhammad Awaluddin said PT Angkasa Pura II also intensified coordination with regulators and related ministries regarding the prevention of the Corona virus. On the other hand, PT Angkasa Pura II continually carries out internal coordination.

"So there are 3 steps that we take as prevention efforts. First, we coordinate with the authorities, namely the Port Health Office, through the installation of a thermal scanner and so on. Secondly, we also regularly coordinate with relevant ministries regarding the latest developments and globally. "

"Third step, we pay attention to the equipment and equipment of personnel at the airplane passenger terminal as the foremost in contact with the airplane passengers. We hope that these prevention efforts are effective. It is possible that in the future other prevention methods will be carried out in accordance with existing developments, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

PT Angkasa Pura II is committed together with all stakeholders at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to make maximum efforts to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
