More than Just an Airport, Soekarno-Hatta Also Creates Ecosystems of Electric Vehicles

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II once again presents an electric vehicle-based public transportation service at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

After previously Blue Bird introduced the Tesla and BYD electric taxis, this time PT Angkasa Pura II in collaboration with Grab provided 20 units of Electric GrabCar which is an online taxi service with a fleet of Hyundai electric cars.

GrabCar Electric was launched at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Monday January 28, 2020. The launching event was also attended by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and the Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia.

The GrabCar Electric can be ordered by customers with a starting point at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to various destinations.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said Soekarno-Hatta Airport wanted to be a pioneer and a leader in the use of electric vehicles in the public service sector.

More than that, Muhammad Awaluddin explained that Soekarno-Hatta had encouraged the creation of ecosystems so that the use of electric vehicles could be sustainable.

"PT Angkasa Pura II together with Blue Bird and Grab chose Soekarno-Hatta Airport as the first location in Indonesia to operate an electric car fleet as public transportation. Then, PT Angkasa Pura II provided the electric car charging station in Soekarno-Hatta. We hope that this ecosystem can further develop. "

"The use of electric cars as public transportation helps implement the eco airport in Soekarno-Hatta. More than that, we want to socialize the use of electric cars in the public service sector, and the hope is that in other places they will also provide the same thing, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

At present around 200,000 aircraft passengers and 50,000 workers and visitors (non-passengers) who arrive and arrive every day at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, make this airport a strategic place in campaigning for the use of electric cars.

"We believe the campaign to use electric cars will be effective so that it supports the government which targets the 2 million electric car population in Indonesia by 2025," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

At Soekarno-Hatta itself there are currently a variety of electricity-based means of transportation such as Skytrain, Airport Trains, GrabWheels scooters, Segways, Boogie Cars, and Baggage Towing Tractors which are used on the air side (air side).

Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Agus Haryadi said that currently being explored the construction of electric car battery charging facilities for the public.

"We want to further develop the electric vehicle ecosystem in Soekarno-Hatta, not just the use of electric cars but also equipped with complete facilities and infrastructure."

"Currently the possibility is being explored so that the Soekarno-Hatta Airport has about 30 charging points for electric vehicles that can be used for the public," Agus Haryadi explained.

Previously, PT Angkasa Pura II and PT PLN had also signed a memorandum of understanding on the Cooperation to Accelerate the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program.

Through the memorandum of understanding, PT Angkasa Pura II airports together with PLN will provide electric car battery charging infrastructure known as the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU). In the future, the concept of using renewable energy sources at the Angkasa Pura II airport can be implemented.
