23 Jan 2020

Jakarta - President Joko Widodo today, Thursday, January 23, 2020, inaugurated various facilities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Facilities inaugurated by the Head of State are Terminal 3, Third Runway, East Connection Taxiway (ECT), and VIP Building specifically for state flights.

President Jokowi arrived in the Soekarno-Hatta area around 18:00 WIB, accompanied by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir, Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning Sofyan Djalil, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin and Managing Director of AirNav Indonesia Novie Riyanto.

The President said the facilities that were inaugurated improved services at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

"Terminal 3 is finished, the third runway is finished, ECT is finished, plus the airport VIP facility is finished. Service has improved. "

The existence of the Third Runway (located in the North) complements the Second Runway (located in the North) and the First Runway (located in the South). Meanwhile, the existence of East Connection Taxiway supports West Connection Taxiway which has been built since 1985.

"Please note, West Connection Taxiway was built in 1985, after that there was a new one [ie East Connection Taxiway]. After 35 years, "explained the President.

As for the East Connection Taxiway, aircraft movement from the north runway to the south runway and vice versa can be even faster than if you only use West Connection Taxiway.

On the same occasion, the President also stressed the importance of building Terminal 4 in Soekarno-Hatta.

"The President Director of AP II also said that it would be resolved soon. It is expected that by the end of 2022 or at the latest by 2023," Jokowi explained.

Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the operation of the Third Runway supported by East Connection Taxiway made Soekarno-Hatta's capacity increase from being able to serve 80 aircraft movements per hour and would gradually become more than 100 movements per hour.

"East Connection Taxiway also makes aircraft movement from the north runway to the south runway faster, from 30 minutes to 7 minutes before," said the Transportation Minister.

SOE Minister Erick Thohir urged Soekarno-Hatta to always be the pride of Indonesia.

In the same place, PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that the development would continue in Soekarno-Hatta including Terminal 4.

"Kick off the design of Terminal 4 has been carried out on December 27, 2019, and the project construction kick off in December 2020. We are committed to completing the construction of Terminal 4 with a capacity of 40 million passengers per year in accordance with the target in 2023 according to the direction of the President."

The development at Soekarno-Hatta was carried out to improve the aspects of safety, security and flight services.

"At present the aspects of safety, security and service in Soekarno-Hatta obviously have improved with the facilities that have just been inaugurated by the President. There is no passenger density at the terminal because it is well distributed at Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The queue of aircraft on the air side is also significantly reduced, thereby increasing the on time performance [OTP] of the airline along with the 3 runways plus East Connection Taxiway and West Connection Taxiway, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.
