PT Angkasa Pura II Develops Sultan Thaha Airport, Starting from the Air Side, Land Side to Public Facilities

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) has carried out various developments at Sultan Thaha Airport, Jambi, starting from the land side, the air side to the public facilities with an investment of around Rp303 billion.

Development on the land side includes the expansion of the passenger plane terminal area from existing 12,000 square meters to 22,000 square meters so that capacity increases from 1.6 million passengers per year to 2.6 million passengers per year.

As for 2018 the number of aircraft passengers has reached 1.8 million passengers so that the expansion of the terminal is considered necessary so that service standards are maintained.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the development at Sultan Thaha Airport had not stopped since the new terminal was operating because of the large potential of the aviation market in Jambi.

"Since the new Sultan Thaha Airport terminal was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in 2016, PT Angkasa Pura II has continued to develop in which next year the passenger terminal will be wider with a capacity of 2.6 million passengers per year," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Development is also carried out on the air side, namely the extension of the runway from 2,220 x 45 m to 2,600 x 45 m and the expansion of the apron from the existing 38,000 square meters to 46,500 square meters.

"The extension of the runway so that the maximum take off weight capacity [MTOW] can be increased, then the expansion of the apron so that the aircraft parking booth is able to accommodate 13 aircraft units from the current 10 units," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Furthermore, the development carried out by PT Angkasa Pura II also includes public facilities such as motorized parking to 30,000 square meters to increase the parking capacity of 403 cars and 350 motorcycles.

In addition, PT Angkasa Pura II also implemented the Airport Digital Journey Experience at Sultan Thaha Airport through digital way finding, smart toilet review, digital banner, smart taxy, customer touchpoint feedback, digital equipment officer, and videotron.

Muhammad Awaluddin said various developments starting from the air side, land side, and public facilities were also aimed at encouraging the Sultan Thaha Airport to become an international airport.

"We strongly support that Sultan Thaha can become an international airport. From Jambi there are a number of potential international flight routes such as Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and China and other countries, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

PT Angkasa Pura II and the Jambi City Government earlier this year also discussed the possibility of Sultan Thaha Airport becoming an international airport.

At present, Sultan Thaha Airport operates 6 airlines, namely Lion Air, Garuda Indonesia, Wings Air, Citilink, Sriwijaya Air, Batik Air and Susi Air, which serve flights to and from 10 domestic destinations.

The benefits of the existence of Sultan Thaha Airport can be felt more widely for the people of Jambi and surrounding areas, where the airport area is currently the center of public activity.

Activities that have been held in the airport area such as the Jambi Province of the First Roller Skate Championship on November 8-9, 2019.

Sultan Thaha Airport also held an Authenticity Fest on 15 September 2019 which is a national-scale music festival and as a place for millennials to express creativity.
