The Concept of Multi-Airport System is Implemented, Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport Becomes the Center for Turboprop Aviation and Workshop

01 Dec 2019

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) implements the concept of a multi-airport system at 4 airports namely Husein Sastranegara, Kertajati, Halim Perdanakusuma and Soekarno-Hatta.

In that concept, each airport has its own business strategy and potential so that they support each other, for example Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, which is a hub for flight propellers (turboprop / propeller) for routes within Java and outside Java.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the location and area of the Husein Sastranegara Airport were very supportive to become a hub airport for turboprop / propeller aircraft.

"We will make Husein Sastranegara an airport that supports turboprop / propeller aircraft operations by presenting various flight routes, both scheduled and unscheduled," Muhammad Awaluddin said while reviewing Husein Sastranegara Airport's operational readiness to become a turboprop / propeller aircraft hub airport, Week 1 December 2019.

"In addition, PT Angkasa Pura II also strives for Husein Sastranegara Airport to optimally support general aviation flights for tourism and so on," Muhammad Awaluddin said.

Muhammad Awaluddin added that by becoming a hub for turboprop / propeller aircraft flights, Husein Sastranegara Airport could become a hub for national tourism connectivity.

"By becoming a turboprop / propeller flight hub, Bandung can become a hub for national tourism destinations.

In addition to being a turboprop / propeller flight hub, Husein Sastranegara Airport in the future is also projected to become an aircraft repair center or MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) for turboprop / propeller aircraft.

Currently PT Angkasa Pura II is discussing intensively related to the MRO area development plan with PT Dirgantara Indonesia.

"We want to build a turboprop / propeller aircraft ecosystem at Husein Sastranegara Airport, in addition to being able to further optimize the fleet of turboprop / propeller aircraft in Indonesia, we also hope that national connectivity will be wider, especially to a number of areas that have not yet been reached by airlines," explained Muhammad Awaluddin .

As a turboprop / propeller hub, Husein Sastranegara Airport will support Kertajati Airport in Majalengka, West Java, which focuses on serving medium-bodied jet flights (narrow body) and wide body.

Meanwhile Kertajati Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta and Soekarno-Hatta will support each other so that each of these airports can operate effectively and efficiently and optimally in supporting the national economy and tourism.

"Through the concept of a multi-airport system flight and passenger traffic will be well distributed, with the four airports supporting each other," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
