Supporting the Government's Commitment, PT. Angkasa Pura II Prepares Airport Development to Expand Connectivity and Smooth Logistics Flow

Jakarta - President Joko Widodo has requested that the development of infrastructure and the transportation sector have an impact on accelerating connectivity to support industry, tourism and logistics.

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo when introducing the ranks of Ministers in the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet 2019-2024 at the State Palace.

The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, said that the President also wants the development and construction of transportation infrastructure to be carried out based on priorities, must be focused and focused.

"The president directs to expand connectivity. Priority must be chosen, what infrastructure is built and where, then focus, "said the Minister.

Supporting the Government's commitment, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) agreed to undertake development at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport which is the main gate in Indonesia, according to a predetermined schedule.

Another important issue at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after the completion of the 3rd Runway is the capacity of the passenger terminal. Therefore Angkasa Pura II is preparing the construction of Terminal 4 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Terminal 4 is also a project whose impact is vital for the development of national air transportation connectivity and Indonesia's competitiveness.

President Director of Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said the design of Terminal 4 has been established at present and construction will take place in 3 years or starting in 2021 to 2024.

"Later in 2024, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4 will have a capacity of reaching 100 million passengers per year."

Through Terminal 4, Angkasa Pura II will encourage more flight connectivity to and from Indonesia.

"Our target is to increase international routes in Soekarno-Hatta so as to bring more foreign tourists to Jakarta or continue flights to other destinations in Indonesia. We want to realize passenger connectivity and tourism connectivity, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Tourism connectivity, explained Muhammad Awaluddin, was also realized with the existence of a low cost carrier terminal (LCCT) in Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

"Other Angkasa Pura II airports are also ready to support Indonesian tourism such as Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport in Tanjung Pinang, Silangit Airport near Lake Toba area, HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport in Belitung, and Banyuwangi Airport."

"Airports under the management of Angkasa Pura II will seek to improve performance and expand flight connectivity so that the national target of 20 million foreign tourists to Indonesia in 2020 can be realized," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Angkasa Pura II currently manages 19 airports with a total terminal capacity throughout the airport that can accommodate 86.15 million passengers per year. At present Angkasa Pura II has plans to develop and construct new terminals at a number of airports so that the terminal's total capacity can reach around 178 million passengers per year.

The Minister of Transportation also said that President Joko Widodo wanted the transportation sector to also support the smooth flow of logistics.

Related to this, Angkasa Pura II will ensure the realization of cargo connectivity through the development of a cargo village in Soekarno-Hatta.

The cargo village area in Soekarno-Hatta is projected to handle around 1.5 million tons of cargo annually.

"The Soekarno-Hatta Cargo village will become the first and most integrated air cargo management center in Indonesia, one of which is driven by the growth of e-commerce businesses in the country."

The construction of the Soekarno-Hatta cargo village area is targeted for completion in 2020.
