AP II and PLN Sign MoU, Soekarno-Hatta Become the First Airport in Indonesia to Have Electric Car Battery Charging Infrastructure

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) and PT PLN (Persero) today, Wednesday, October 16, 2019, signed a memorandum of understanding on the Cooperation to Accelerate the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program.

Through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) later airports under Angkasa Pura II will provide infrastructure for charging electric car batteries, or known as the Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU).

The MoU conducted by Angkasa Pura II is part of a total of 20 signatories to the MoU conducted by PLN with various stakeholders today, Wednesday, October 16, 2019, in order to develop the national electric motor vehicle industry.

The signing of the MoU was also witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and the Minister for Research, Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir.

As for the pilot project, the Angkasa Pura II airport that will first operate the SPKLU infrastructure is Soekarno-Hatta.

President Director of Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said the MoU further emphasized the commitment of Angkasa Pura II in supporting the use and development of electric vehicles in the country.

"Angkasa Pura II strongly supports the acceleration of the battery-based electric motor vehicle program which has also been established by the government through the issuance of Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019."

"As the biggest and busiest airport in Indonesia with around 200,000 daily passengers and 50,000 workers, we hope that Soekarno-Hatta, the pilot project in the electric vehicle development program, will be able to set an example for other airports and public service infrastructure. others, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Muhammad Awaluddin added Angkasa Pura II and PLN to immediately discuss in more detail the planned cooperation.

"After this MoU, Angkasa Pura II and PLN, among others, will map the needs of electric motorized vehicles and the need for electric car battery charging points in accordance with the location of the airport. What is clear, at this time in Soekarno-Hatta has operated a number of electric motorized vehicles to serve passengers and support airport operations. "

"We are very confident that the discussion will proceed smoothly so that the construction of electric car battery charging infrastructure can soon be carried out in Soekarno-Hatta," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

The current electric motorized vehicles that have been operated at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are Tesla and BYD's electric taxis, Blue Bird. Other electric vehicles at the largest airports in Indonesia are Skytrain, Segway, electric scooters, baggage towing tractors, and electric buses for the airport area.

Furthermore, Muhammad Awaluddin said Angkasa Pura II strongly encouraged the use of public transportation such as buses, taxis, based on electricity as an effort to make Soekarno-Hatta the concept of an eco airport.

Plt. PLN's Managing Director Sripeni Inten Cahyani said that the detailed discussion with stakeholders who signed the MoU today will take place within a maximum of one month.

The provision of electric car battery charging infrastructure is also considered very important to support the development of the industry as a whole.

"Don't let consumers buy an electric car but have difficulty charging," said Sripeni Inten Cahyani.

In the same place, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that each stakeholder must prioritize cooperation for the development of the national electric car industry.

"We all have to teamwork, not single fighter," explained the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs.

The construction of SPKLU in Soekarno-Hatta is expected to have an impact on the increasing support for electric motor vehicles in Indonesia and the availability of charging stations in public service facilities.
