Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport now has autonomous equipment to clean the floors in Terminal 3.
As is known, Terminal 3 is the largest and most grand aircraft passenger terminal in Indonesia. The area of this terminal reaches around 420,000 square meters with the movement of aircraft passengers can reach 25 million passengers annually.
In an effort to maintain a perfect level of floor cleanliness especially in such an area plus the crowds of passengers, Angkasa Pura II began in August 2019 to place two robotic scrubber drier units in Terminal 3.
The existing Robotic scrubber drier Terminal 3 is a combination of smart solutions and the most advanced technology on the market. Not only is it able to clean the floor perfectly, this robot can also work very fast.
The autonomous equipment is equipped with a telemetry system to ensure the software communicates with various sonar, lasers and sensors to ensure the robot maneuvers safely and avoids obstacles when in the task of cleaning the floor.
Meanwhile, this autonomous source of energy equipment comes from batteries with a maximum capacity of 180 Ah with a duration (battery run time) of 4 hours. This equipment carries a tank that can hold 90 liters of water and has two brush units.
Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the presence of autonomous floor cleaning equipment was one of the company's commitments to reduce the role of humans in repetitive work.
"Angkasa Pura II is in the process of evolving services where we put forward autonomous equipment for a number of jobs to reduce the role of humans. On the other hand, the role of human resources will be shifted to jobs that do require human touch. "
Muhammad Awaluddin said Angkasa Pura II is currently also considering the use of more autonomous equipment at the company's airports.
For example, autonomous equipment to organize, pick up and tidy up luggage at the passenger terminal of the aircraft.
In addition, baggage towing tractors [BTT] that currently require drivers will be considered to be unmanned or autonomous. BTT itself is a vehicle for towing passenger luggage from the make up area at the terminal to the plane and vice versa.
"We also open up the possibility of using autonomous drones to clean foreign object debris [FOD] or debris from foreign objects on the runway. With autonomous drones we hope that cleaning FOD on the runway can be faster and optimal," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.
Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Agus Haryadi explained that the autonomous floor cleaning equipment in Terminal 3 operates while still ensuring safety and security factors.
"To ensure safety and security, the operation of this autonomous floor cleaning equipment is always supervised by the Angkasa Pura II team. Autonomous equipment and cleaning personnel will complement each other so that cleanliness of Terminal 3 can be maintained properly. "
Aside from Soekarno-Hatta, the robotic scrubber drier is also likely to be placed at other airports under Angkasa Pura II.
Aside from autonomous equipment to clean floors, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport also has Dilo robots on duty like customer service personnel.
Dilo has a small physical form, white, with two hands that always respond when invited to interact. This robot can help aircraft passengers provide instructions or information about the airport.
More than that, Dilo also has multimedia features (music, videos, documents) so that it can also entertain travelers in the terminal.
"Angkasa Pura II is now indeed aiming to utilize a number of autonomous facilities in improving services at airports including Soekarno-Hatta. In addition to floor cleaners and Dilo, we also have a Digital Wayfinding that can automatically show the road in the terminal to the traveler, "Agus Haryadi explained.
As for the luggage area, the conveyor belt at Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta has also been equipped with an autonomous Baggage Lifting Equipment tool to pull baggage belonging to airplane passengers to be forwarded to the baggage claim area so that the baggage owner can quickly retrieve it.
Agus Haryadi added that the Skytrain operation, which is an electric-based train within the Soekarno-Hatta area, will also be without the presence of the crew, aka operating autonomously in the future.
"At present the Skytrain that connects Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the airport train station is still operating with the driver. In the future, this Skytrain will run alone or autonomous in serving passenger mobility in the Soekarno-Hatta area. "
In addition to the various tangible autonomous equipment, Angkasa Pura II also has a TASYA virtual assistant service (Angkasa Pura II Travel Assistance System). TASYA is an artificial intelligence-based chatbot service that can answer traveler questions regarding airports under Angkasa Pura II.
Angkasa Pura II is an airport operator currently known as a technology-based airport development trendsetter.
