Angkasa Pura II Focuses on Developing Padang Airport, Passenger Terminal Capacity Increased 125%

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) is developing an airplane passenger terminal at Minangkabau International Airport, Padang.

The development was carried out through the construction of a new building which is located right next to the existing terminal building.

After the development, the terminal capacity will increase drastically around 125% or from the current 2.3 million passengers per year to 5.17 million passengers per year.

Executive General Manager of the Minangkabau International Airport Yos Suwagiyono said one of the reasons for the increase in terminal capacity was due to the significant growth of aircraft passengers in Padang.

Last year, he continued, the number of airplane passengers in Padang had reached 4.13 million passengers even though the terminal capacity at the airport was far below that.

"In addition, the development of the terminal was also carried out as our effort to work on the potential of the growing aviation market. At present the development progress has reached 60%. "

"Padang is one of the main tourist destinations in Indonesia, and Angkasa Pura II is committed to supporting its development by increasing air transportation connectivity in Padang," Yos Suwagiyono explained.

Yos Suwagiyono said that the terminal development has run smoothly and is targeted to start operating early next year.

"We will also redesign the layout or relayout so that additional existing areas can be optimally used to support improved services at international and domestic flight terminals," Yos Suwagiyono explained.

The current area of ​​the existing terminal is 400.46 hectares and later after the development it will be 438.84 hectares.

Along with the development of the aircraft passenger terminal, Angkasa Pura II also has plans to expand the cargo warehouse more than doubling or from the current 1,583 square meters to 3,677 square meters.

Not only that, the motorized parking area was also expanded from the existing 27,840 square meters to 49,115 square meters.

"All supporting facilities for the airport's operations have been expanded, starting from the passenger terminal, cargo warehouse, to the parking area. This is done for better service for the people of Padang and West Sumatra as a whole, "Yos Suwagiyono said.

Minangkabau International Airport is the 6th busiest airport managed by Angkasa Pura II, after Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang), Kualanamu (Deli Serdang), Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta), Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang), and Supadio (Pontianak).

Airlines that serve flights from and to Padang include Garuda Indonesia, Aviastar, Sriwijaya Air, Citilink, Lion Airlines, Batik Air, and Wings Airlines. Meanwhile, international routes are served by the AirAsia Group to and from Kuala Lumpur.
