The First LCC International Terminal in Indonesia Excited the Thrifty Aviation Market This Year

Jakarta - The market for low-cost international routes at Soekarno-Hatta Airport continues to experience growth.

In the period from January 1 to September 20 2019, the number of low cost carrier (LCC) passengers on international routes in Soekarno-Hatta reached 3.16 million passengers.

The number increased by around 4% year-to-date compared to the period January 1 to September 20 2018 of 3.04 million passengers.

Meanwhile, aircraft movements on 1 January-20 September 2019 recorded 22,805 flights, up 6% compared to the same period last year which was 21,517 flights.

The LCC airlines serving international flight routes in Soekarno-Hatta are AirAsia Group, Lion Air Group, Jetstar, Citilink, Cebu Pacific and Scoot.

Every day there are a total of 104 international flight routes operated by LCC airlines in Soekarno-Hatta, consisting of 51 departures and 53 arrivals. On average, there are 4 flights per hour.

LCC airline flights from Soekarno-Hatta are currently dominated by destinations in ASEAN countries, besides there are also routes to China. The Angkasa Pura II along with the airline is currently actively targeting the long-haul airline market or long haul.

One of the long haul flights that will open in October-December is the Jakarta - Frankfurt (Germany) route by one LCC airline, Citilink.

VP of Corporate Communication Angkasa Pura II Yado Yarismano said the Soekarno-Hatta Airport was able to maximize existing assets in order to optimize and stimulate the LCC market, especially international routes.

In addition, Yado Yarismano continued, around 60% of passengers in Soekarno-Hatta are millennials who are the main target market for airlines in the LCC segment.

"The market has responded positively to the LCC segment on international routes, and Angkasa Pura II is optimizing that growth, one of which is by establishing Terminal 2F as a special LCC terminal starting May 1, 2019."

"Through LCC Terminal 2F, airline flight operations in the LCC segment can also be optimized and efficient. At present the level of punctuality or on-time performance specifically for LCC airline departures is 82%, "Yado Yarismano explained.

Angkasa Pura II also has a LCC Terminal 2F revitalization plan that prioritizes practicality, speed, and convenience.

In accordance with the business pattern of low-cost aviation business, later in LCC Terminal 2F will prioritize digital facilities.

the number of conventional check-in desks at LCC Terminal 2F will be reduced from 20 units in 2020 to 10 units in 2022. On the other hand, the number of self-check-in facilities has been increased to 40 units.

Along with that, the self bag drop facility was added from 10 units in 2020, to 20 units in 2022.

"The development of LCC Terminal 2F has the concept of technology implementation for value added services, with its application through web check-in, self check-in, self bag drop and so on. Through it all, the LCC Terminal 2F process is able to realize the process of departure and arrival that is fast so that it presents a pleasant travel experience, "said Yado Yarismano.

LCC Terminal 2F is a form of Angkasa Pura II in supporting LCC market growth. The growth of the LCC market can optimally encourage the growth of tourism in Indonesia.

Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya also believes that LCC Terminal 2F can attract more foreign tourists to Indonesia.

"We hope that with the operation of this LCCT, the number of tourists will increase sharply, because in principle foreign tourists prefer to use LCCT," said the Minister.

In addition to Menpar, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and SOE Minister Rini M. Soemarno have also expressed their support for the existence of the LCC Terminal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

At present the revitalization of Terminal 2 as a whole is underway, where one of the results of the revitalization is the increase in capacity of Terminal 2 to around 20 million passengers per year from the current 9 million passengers.
