The First Commercial Aircraft Landed on Runway 3 Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Jakarta - Runway 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport today, Thursday 15 August 2019, was landed by commercial aircraft.

The NAM Air Boeing 737-500 aircraft with flight number IN 181 was the first to land on runway 3, departing from Pontianak and arriving at Soekarno-Hatta at around 09.20 WIB.

Flight flights with PK-NAO registration are manned by Capt. Hendra Jusak Jacobus (Instructor) and Capt. Hendaryanto along with First Officer Ferry Firmansyah, and also 4 cabin crews carrying a total of 118 passengers.

SVP PH of Corporate Secretary Achmad Rifai said that runway 3 had been landed for the first time by commercial aircraft after obtaining licensing recommendations from the Ministry of Transportation.

"Today is part of the history of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. For the first time runway 3 is landed with commercial airplanes for connectivity and can increase flights at Indonesia's main gate. "

"For decades, Soekarno-Hatta has operated with only two runways, and today we are grateful that the runway 3 project has been able to be used to support Soekarno-Hatta in accelerating economic growth and tourism in Indonesia," Achmad Rifai explained.

The existence of runway 3 makes the flight capacity in Soekarno-Hatta increase to 114 flights per hour.

Achmad Rifai said runway 3 currently operates with a length of 2,500 meters and could later be declared up to 3,000 meters.

The runway 3 project also received special attention from President Joko Widodo. When the project was underway, at least twice President Jokowi visited the field directly. one of them on June 21, 2019 or right on the birthday of the President.

At that time, President Jokowi wanted runway 3 to be ready for operation in July 2019 so that flight capacity at Soekarno-Hatta would increase.

"We hope it will not be like what we were yesterday, we want to get off the car for half an hour, and it's gone after this is finished. God willing, it's gone. It means, this large additional capacity will immediately be closed because the queue has been a long time, "explained the President at that time.

The runway 3 project also received attention from the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi. On July 21, 2019, the Minister of Transportation even had time to witness the landing of a calibration aircraft on runway 3 in order to test the physical readiness of the runway.

On that occasion, the Minister of Transportation stated runway 3 was ready for operation but still needed to finalize preparations, runway 3 would be opened for commercial flights in mid-August 2019 as the 74th birthday gift of the Republic of Indonesia.

The runway 3 project requires 216 hectares of land to build a runway. Of the total land requirements, AP II previously had 49 hectares and the rest went through the land acquisition process.
