Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation said that the preparation of the third runway of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport would be reported to President Joko Widodo so that it could be used immediately, in accordance with his direction on the President's working visit on 21 June 2019 ago.
"How happy we are in Indonesia, Angkasa Pura II can provide a third runway facility. Indeed, it is expected that the President can be used immediately, "explained the Minister of Transportation.
The Minister of Transportation asserted that the physical and technical runway of the third runway with a length of 2,500 meters can be used at this time, but still requested that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), and AirNav Indonesia be able to finalize coordination and procedures first.
If all preparations are ready, the Minister of Transportation said the third runway will officially start operating in August 2019. "Commemorating August 17th. Now you can, but you need to prepare everything. This has become a gift for Indonesian independence, "said the Minister of Transportation.
In the same place, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin stated that the third runway project with a length of 2,500 meters was 100% complete.
"We thank all parties so that the third runway project with a length of 2,500 meters has been completed well. This third runway can already be ready for operation, where proving flight has also been carried out for the third runway landing test today. "
Muhammad Awaluddin said the next AP II target was to operate the third runway with dimensions of 3,000 x 60 meters.
"We are targeting in October, the third runway is ready to operate with a dimension of 3,000 x 60 meters so that flights in Soekarno-Hatta can be more optimal and optimal," said Muhammad Awaluddin.
Now the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport operates with runway one and runway two. Through the two runways, the flight capacity in Soekarno-Hatta is 81 aircraft movements per hour.
With the third runway, Soekarno-Hatta can serve 114 airplane movements per hour.
The operation of the third runway will make flight traffic smoother and bring in more flights, so that in the future Soekarno-Hatta International Airport can serve passenger movements reaching 100 million passengers per year or equivalent to airports in Beijing (China) and Atlanta (United States).
At present, the number of passengers in Soekarno-Hatta ranges from 60-70 million passengers per year.
